Abstract: Photographs from the Glander Art Studio (Manitowoc, Wisconsin) collection including portraits of prominent individuals, such as Robert M. La Follette and Joseph McCarthy, as well as work the Glanders did for their commercial clients. The photographs also document Manitowoc's many civic and musical groups, and the changes in the character of the community during the time the Studio was in operation. Also includes a few studio records and biographical papers of owners John A. Glander and Henry J. Glander.

Orr, Glen H. Title: Glen H. Orr Diaries, 1921-1969

Abstract: Diaries, 1921-1969, of Glen H. Orr, a 1915 graduate of the University of Wisconsin's School of Agriculture, who lived in Blooming Grove, near rural south Madison. Orr kept detailed accounts of his farm activities, his home life, the weather, local weddings, births and deaths, buildings, and other daily activities and news. In addition to Orr's farm activities, he worked various odd jobs around Madison, including census enumerating in Stoughton, outdoor landscaping in and around Madison with Wallace Conlin, and a job at the license bureau (Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Department) in downtown Madison. In 1959, he retired and lived in Jasper and Harrison, Arkansas, and after this time the diaries concern his life there.

Abstract: Congressional papers of Glenn R. Davis, Wisconsin representative from the Second District, 1947-1956, and from the Ninth District, 1965-1974. Copies of legislative bills and constituent correspondence, 1965-1974, reflect Davis' work on the House of Representatives committees on Appropriations, Public Works, Defense, and Military Construction, as well as on the Joint Committee on Budget Control. There is extensive correspondence between Davis and his constituents concerning the Watergate affair, 1973-1974. The Public Relations File contains media News Releases, 1967-1974, and Newsletters to constituents, 1950-1951, 1965-1974, issued by Davis' office. Political correspondence consists of copies of letters of such notable figures as Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and fellow congressmen, mainly on congressional matters. There is a biographical sketch assembled by Davis' staff, and a microfilm copy of scrapbooks, 1946-1974, which document Davis' career. The collection lacks administrative and campaign records.

Abstract: Diaries and correspondence between Glenn Garlock and his family while he was on Army active duty in the Spanish-American War (1898), the 1916 Texas border incidient with Mexico, and World War I (1916-1919). Garlock's World War I letters describe his duties as an officer in the 128th Infantry, 32nd Division, conditions in the trenches while in France, as well as the impact of the war on the French people and countryside. The correspondence describes life in army camps prior to shipping out for the Philippines at Camp Harvey, Wisconsin and Camp Cuba Libre, Florida. Also included are letters from the World War I training camps at Waco, Texas and Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Abstract: Papers of several generations of a family with connections to Shullsburg, Wisconsin. Primarily documented by incoming correspondence are Isaac W. Glines, who came to Wisconsin in 1829 from Marietta, Ohio; his son Edward James, who served in the 3rd Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War; his daughters Marietta Glines Lloyd and Hellen Glines James and their husbands; and his granddaughter Geneva Helen James, who managed a farm in the Shullsburg area. In addition to letters about health, travel, business, and general family matters, the collection includes miscellaneous farm account books, memorabilia, genealogies, high quality local ephemera, a photocopied scrapbook about local residents who served in World War I, and Isaac Glines' historical writings about the early days of Schullsburg from the Southwestern Local. Much of the 19th century family correspondence has been transcribed by the donor. Marvin, Ware, and Rogers family connections are also represented in the collection. A few photographs received with the collection represent Shullsburg about 1920.

Abstract: Papers of Gloria Kannenberg Coates (1938-), a native of Wausau, Wisconsin, and a composer of international note, primarily documenting her formative years in the United States, from 1946 to 1969. Included are incoming personal correspondence, photographs, and other materials from her high school and college years in Wisconsin and Illinois, as well as some documentation about theatrical and musical activities in those states as well as in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and New York City. Her years in Louisiana are documented mainly through clippings and files on the Baton Rouge Little Theater and Louisiana State University. The latter includes additional clippings and memorabilia, as well as scripts, three original musical compositions, and a composition notebook. Documentation of her career in Germany, where she is best known, is limited, including only a commercially-produced disc of Music on Open Strings and String Quartets Nos. 1, 2, and 4 (1985); a cassette recording of Sinfonietta della Notte and Music on Open Strings; and posters for events that she produced, possibly as part of the German-American Contemporary Music Series in Munich, or at which her compositions were performed. Photographs include portraits and candid views of Coates and her family.
