The files date primarily from 1948 to 1950. The file contains several types of records: (1) records of Eagle-Lion Films (predecessor of Eagle-Lion Classics), (2) records of Pathé Industries, the Pathé Film Corporation, and other subsidiaries of Pathé (mainly as information copies), (3) records of Producers Releasing Corporation (PRC), another predecessor Eagle-Lion subsidiary (PRC maintained a similar legal file--see Series 2G), and (4) records of Eagle-Lion Classics before and after UA acquisition. |

The first genealogy is that of Joseph Belisle (born 1845) and his wife Celina Dufresne of Somerset, Wisconsin, their children, and their ancestors in the province of Quebec including surnames Germain and Bouin. The Parent-Mars genealogy concerns the French-Canadian ancestors of Marie-Louise Parent (1851-1938) of Somerset, Wisconsin who, in 1872, married Joseph Maher (later Mars). Additionally, there is a history, including genealogies, of the early settlers of Somerset (Wis.), especially Louis and Joseph Parent as well as a history of the French-Canadians who settled in the Apple River Settlement, near Range (Wis.) with family genealogies. Included throughout are reproductions of photographs, maps, and family documents. |

Quantity: 56.6 c.f. and 0.3 c.f. of photographs Call Number: M96-002; M2013-002 Abstract: Papers, mainly 1934-1972, of Edwin Earl Newsom, the founder and senior partner of Earl Newsom & Company, a firm founded in 1935 that pioneered the practice of socially responsible corporate public relations. Included are correspondence and memoranda, voluminous draft speeches and corporate publications, public opinion surveys by Elmo Roper, research materials, and public relations programs. In addition to routine corporate issues, the papers document such diverse topics as the accounting profession, air pollution, automobile safety, drug prices, labor relations in the automotive industry, “Pay television” and the quiz show scandals, polio vaccine, and speech writing. During the firm's early years Newsom provided product oriented services for firms such as the American Locomotive Company, the International Tea Market Expansion Board, Ltd., and the International Wool Publicity and Research Secretariat. After World War II the firm specialized in policy-oriented services, and Newsom provided top level management consultation to Henry Ford II, John D. Rockefeller III, and some of the nation's most important leaders. These services included assistance with staffing internal public relations departments; editorial advice with speeches, statements, and corporate publications; and public opinion research on labor relations, government regulations, and other issues. |
| Ganzow, Earl O. | Title: Earl O. Ganzow Papers and Photographs, Quantity: 1.0 linear ft. (3 archives boxes) of papers and 0.2 linear ft. (1 archives box) of photographs. Call Number: WVM Mss 1026 Abstract: Papers and photographs of Earl O. Ganzow, a private with the 237th Combat Engineer Battalion during World War II who saw action at the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. The collection consists mostly of the letters Ganzow wrote to his wife, Marian, during his service from March 1943 through November 1945. Writing regularly, at times daily, he described his activities as well as his feelings. While in training at Camp Butner (North Carolina), he remarked upon the birth of his daughter and his reluctance to go overseas while also describing his work on the Tennessee Maneuvers repairing civilian property as part of a Fence Repair Company. Overseas, he touched briefly upon his role in the Normandy invasion as well as the fighting that led to the Battle of the Bulge. He described the destruction of European towns, his feeling that he was fighting for his family and the ability to go home to them, and growing stress due to constant enemy artillery attacks. After absent without leave from his unit for roughly one month, Ganzow's letters provided details of his punishment, being sent to the Loire (France) D.T.C. where he faced loss of pay, rationed stationery for letters home, and physical labor. After being released in the autumn of 1945, Ganzow remained in Europe through the end of November and wrote angrily about the delay and his hopes of starting a new life with his wife and daughter. Other papers include some religious (Catholic) materials, souvenirs from basic training, German propaganda cards portraying Adolf Hitler in a positive light, and a piece of Nazi propaganda, written in French, implying that the United States were merely a tool of the Jews. Photographs include shots of Ganzow and Marian, both individually and at their wedding. There are also pictures of bridges built and destroyed by his unit in Europe, and of his trip back to the United States at after the war. |

Quantity: 1.2 c.f. (3 archives boxes) Call Number: Platteville Mss AW Abstract: A research collection compiled by Earl W. Reiger involving Kickapoo Valley Railroad history. Built between 1889 and 1892, the 52-mile line connected Wauzeka and La Farge, Wis., operated in Crawford, Richland, and Vernon counties until 1939, and was sequentially managed by Kickapoo Valley and Northern, Western Wisconsin, and Milwaukee Road. Reiger organized his research into eight notebooks and by subject headings thereunder. Those headings have been retained in their orginal order and contain information transcribed from several Kickapoo region newspapers; and photocopies of plat books, photographs, local histories, and various government documents. Also present is information on Wauzeka, Reiger's birthplace, as well as a folder of similar material on the Fennimore to Woodman Narrow Gauge Railroad, a 92-mile branch of the Chicago-Northwestern operating between 1878-1926. |

Through the efforts of the Earth Day Steering Committee, local groups were contacted and an attempt to coordinate environmental activities in the area on April 22, 1990, was successful. Materials of the local Earth Day Steering Committee, including memos, agendas, notes, schedule of events, correspondence, and publicity. The leadership of the steering committee came from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Geography and Earth Sciences Department and Career Services. |

Contents: Tarble Arts Center: 21 folders, 6 binders, 2 filing cabinets, 400 sound recordings, 4,398 color slides, 34 videocassettes, and 1 film Unique Identifier: CSUMC0029-CG Summary: Records from three surveys of southeastern Illinois folk arts, conducted by half a dozen fieldworkers through the Eastern Illinois University (EIU) School of Fine Arts, document over 150 traditional artists and musicians. The first survey (1976-1977) canvassed the southeastern sixth of the state and resulted in a 1977 EIU Sargent Gallery exhibition that included artist demonstrations. Many of the featured artists also appeared in the 1977 Festival of the Arts Celebration on the Charleston, Illinois campus. A follow-up survey (1978-1980) narrowed the view to traditional artists within a 50-mile radius of campus and contributed to EIU's 1979 Festival of the Arts Celebration. The third survey (1983-1985) focused on traditional musicians and folk artists chiefly in and around Danville and Decatur in Vermilion and Macon counties. Documentation from the surveys, now housed at the Tarble Arts Center on the EIU campus, also informed a 30-minute TV documentary about three of the region's folk artists. |

Until 1999, the organization hosted exhibits at the Pump House, the home of the Western Wisconsin Regional Arts agency. Records include by-laws, 1987 and 1997; a directory of member artists with some biographical content, 1976-1985; a guest book of visitors to the exhibits, 1977-circa 1981; historical scrapbooks of the organization, 1976-2001; a collection of posters and newspaper clippings, 1976-1988; and finally meeting minutes, 1978-1999 (which also include some financial records). A record of licenses issued by the City Clerk for 1872-1873 is at the end of Volume 1. The series consists of scrapbooks of clippings of the published, official proceedings taken from city newspapers. Some of the paper had deteriorated prior to filming and is illegible. |

Problems specifically related to World War II include unemployment, purchase of war bonds, attempts to get needed city employees out of the service early, and the rationing caused by the war. Many of the letters are to and from prominent Wisconsin politicians such as Congressman Merlin Hull, Senators Alexander Wiley and R. M. La Follette, Jr., and Governors Julius Heil and Walter Goodland. |
