Abstract: Microfilmed papers of Erhart Mueller, a farmer and local historian who collected material and wrote about the Town of Sumpter, Sauk County, Wisconsin. Included are scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, notes, histories of area families, genealogical charts and data, transcribed diaries, correspondence, snippets of conversations, and photographs. Especially well documented are the Accola, Kindschi, and Mueller families, to whom Mueller was related, as well as the Haskin, Huddleston, Ochsner, Ragatz, Sprecher, and Waterbury families. Similarly diverse materials document area cemeteries, churches, schools, organizations, and places, especially the Badger Ordnance Works, which was constructed during World War II, Badger Village (later Bluffview Courts, a retirement community originally constructed as subsidized housing for Badger Ordnance Works), the Free Congregation of Sauk City, Salem Evangelical Church, the Witwen camp meetings, and Stone's Pocket School. The research of Walter Doll, historian of Prairie du Sac, is also represented. There are also minutes and scrapbooks of the Sauk City Gun Club, the Sauk City Women's Club, and the Sauk Prairie Farmers Club.

Abstract: Papers of Beth and Eric Heiden, Olympic speed skating champions from Madison, Wisconsin, relating primarily to the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid at which Beth won one Bronze and Eric won five Gold medals. The bulk of the collection consists of fan mail (1980) to Beth and Eric. Also included are scrapbooks, photographs, drawings, and posters.

Abstract: Records are colored film negatives of architecture in Milwaukee and other cities in the United States. There are over 12,000 negatives. The photos range from the 1970s through the 1990s, and are undated. The majority of the negatives are focused on Milwaukee building exteriors, interiors, and scenes. The bulk of the collection is on 2x2 negative slides. The rest are 3.5x5 and 4x7 negative slides. The negatives are not dated.

Abstract: Erich Cramer and Lucia Karker Stern were prominent natives of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the early 20th century. Married in 1930, Lucia was an artist and lecturer known for her geometric and modern designs, and Erich was an attorney, professor and local elected official. This collection consists of a wide variety of materials reflecting the professional, family, financial and personal activities of Lucia and Erich Stern.

Abstract: Papers of Stern, a Milwaukee lawyer who served as an alderman, 1908-1910, state assemblyman, 1910-1912, and a major apologist for Germany's cause during World War I. Included are primarily personal and family correspondence, much of which is in German, clippings and comments on the war, brief aldermanic papers with information on a nation-wide survey on street maintenance and financing, legislative papers pertaining to a law establishing non-partisan municipal elections, financial papers of Stern's father's wholesale drygoods business, and other documents. Prominent correspondents include Benjamin Harrison, Werner Hegemann, Robert M. La Follette, Sr., Theodore Roosevelt, and Carl Schurz (concerning the Schurz Memorial Association).

Abstract: Papers of Ernest Fischer, an Associated Press correspondent and journalism educator, consisting of press releases, dispatches, notes, and correspondence pertaining to various United Nations agencies, the 1948 Olympics, the World Council of Churches, and other organizations and events which Fischer covered. Also included are personal materials on his experiences during World War II: a brief recollection of his internment at Bad Nauheim, 1941-1942; two longer unpublished works on the same subject (a book and a play); copies of the Bad Nauheim internees' newspaper; a brief manuscript on Nazi propaganda; and three wartime diaries. The diaries concern the internment, his service as a European war correspondent in 1945, and his assignment in Vienna and London in 1946.

Abstract: Papers of Ernest Kinoy, a journalist and writer for radio, television, and theater. The majority of the collection consists of scripts for radio and television. Although most radio files contain only one version of a script, the television materials include progressive drafts, together with correspondence and contracts. Among the best represented radio series are Best Plays, Doctor Six-Gun, Five Star Matinee, Hollywood Love Story, The Marriage, My Secret Story, NBC Theater, NBC University Theater, Nick Carter, Woman in Love, and X Minus One. The television files include good coverage of Kinoy's work for Big Story (NBC), The Defenders (CBS), Goodyear/Philco TV Playhouse, Dr. Kildare (NBC), Naked City (ABC), The Marriage, Our American Heritage (NBC), Roots and Roots: The Next Generations (ABC), Studio One (CBS); the made-for-TV movies Boston, Chaplin, Lincoln, Magnificat, Murrow, and Skokie; and many other series and dramatic anthologies. Also present are general correspondence, stage and screen plays, and material on Kinoy's involvement in the Writers Guild of America.

Abstract: Papers of Luther, a superintendent of farmers' institutes in Oneida County, Wis., and professor of agriculture in the University of Wisconsin Extension Division. Included are a small amount of correspondence; histories, reports, and bulletins about the farmers' institutes; biographies of men and women prominent in agricultural extension work; speeches; studies and unpublished articles; sixteen volumes of diaries (1912-1928); and a record and account book (1915-1920). Photographs include a series of images, 1912-1915, of Luther's potato growing experiments near Rhinelander and three images of a slusher at work near Montello, Wisconsin.

Abstract: Papers of Ernest Pendrell, a journalist and maker of television documentaries. The bulk of the collection consists of shooting scripts, research, transcripts of interviews, films, financial records, and reviews relating to ABC News' Scope and Directions series and to a number of individual news specials aired by that network. Among the subjects treated are marijuana and drug abuse, abortion, race relations, the welfare system, violence in Northern Ireland, nuclear power, and the Vietnam conflict and the problems of the veterans of that era. Also present are script materials for Guns of August (Universal, 1964), a full-length documentary film about World War I; Feeling Good, a PBS series on health; and files on several unproduced titles. Dramatic writings are less well represented, but include four plays and a script for DuPont Show of the Week (NBC).

Abstract: Correspondence and diaries of Ernest Schirm, an articulate carpenter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin which focus primarily on his concerns relating to World War I veterans affairs, the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Status of Forces Agreement, United States foreign policy, government spending, communism, civil rights, the Black revolution, and art. The collection includes a lively correspondence, 1941-1969, with his elected representatives and local press; at least one diary for each decade between 1919 and 1969, containing annotated clippings, photographs, circulars, correspondence, and mementos; art notebooks and papers from Schirm's classes at Marquette University; and genealogy notes.

Abstract: Papers of a social philosopher, writer, artist, and director of the Washington Park Zoo, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, containing correspondence, speeches and writings that largely concern socialism, and a few reproductions of his paintings. The correspondence includes letters to Joan London containing references to his acquaintance with her father Jack London, and to his work at the Washington Park Zoo and his membership in the Socialist Party; and carbons of many letters to Milwaukee socialists concerning his critique of Marxism. Writings include three longer works: The Tragedy of Marxism, Science and Thinking, and Lenin's Maggot, as well as shorter articles and speeches. One section of articles relates to his ideas concerning zoos.

Abstract: The Erwin H. Ackerknecht correspondence contains the professional correspondence of Erwin H. Ackerknecht,first chair in the history of medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ackerknecht (M.D University of Leipzig, 1931) became a full professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1947 and remained until 1957. The correspondence in this collection is mostly from the years 1947 to 1954.

Abstract: Papers of Erwin Knoll, an outspoken advocate for free speech and nonviolence, documenting his career as a journalist for Editor & Publisher (1948-1953, while an evening student at New York University) and The Washington Post (1957-1963), White House correspondent for Newhouse News Service (1963-1968), host of two nationally syndicated radio shows, panel member on the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour, and editor of The Progressive magazine (1973-1994). The Progressive papers include documentation of United States of America v. The Progressive, Inc., his First Amendment battle fought and won against the U.S. government, which in 1979 tried to restrain The Progressive from publishing an article with the hydrogen bomb formula obtained from publicly available sources.
