The records include correspondence, 1892-1927, consisting primarily of printed circulars from the CMIU headquarters and locals and other unions providing documentation of strikes and other issues in the labor movement, especially for 1916 to 1919; membership records, 1882-1927; financial records, 1881-1920; and records, 1944-1969, of the cigar manufacturing business of one member, Peter Rutten.

Abstract: Civil case files appealed from the Calumet County Circuit Court to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The files contain materials used in Circuit Court trials, including affidavits, appeals, complaints, orders, transcripts of hearings and trials, and other legal documents. Nearly all the files contain a copy of the Supreme Court's decision, and some include evidence presented at the trials. After rendering judgment on a case, it was previously the practice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court to return the case files to their court of origin.

Abstract: Intra-corporation information notices. The bulk of these were issued by a small number of executives in the sales and the publicity departments, although a significant quantity originated in other areas, such as the accessories manager and the comptroller's office. Also included are smaller quantities of press releases, interdepartmental and interoffice correspondence, and miscellaneous enclosures. Most of the material is related to the selling and exploitation of films both to exhibitors and to the general public. Other frequently found subject matter concerns the success of various pictures, proper office procedures, requests for charitable donations, and exhortations to sell more pictures on better terms.

Abstract: Records of the City Club of Milwaukee (Wisconsin), a civic organization formed to study and promote better social, civic, and economic conditions. Minutes, correspondence, subject files, scrapbooks, and photographs document the club's activities. The bulk of the collection consists of background materials collected by study groups on many civic topics, including public finance, city and regional planning, transportation, public education, and health and social services. Also included are the personal papers of the club's civic secretary from 1917 to 1974, Leo Tiefenthaler, and files on the Outdoor Life Group and the Milwaukee Civic Alliance. Among the civic projects in which the club was involved are consolidation of city and county government, annexation of adjoining areas, establishment of the pay-as-you-go principle for financing public improvements, opposition to repeated attempts to introduce political considerations into school administration through school board representation by districts rather than at-large, enactment of the county civil service commission, defense of civil service principles, passage of the drivers' license law, and advocacy of Milwaukee's scientific street lighting, street naming, house numbering, and playground systems.

Abstract: Records of the Civil Rights Defense Committee (CRDC), an organization formed in 1941 which unsuccessfully fought the conviction of 18 members of the Minneapolis Teamsters Local 544. In the first conviction under the Smith Act, the defendants were jailed for their membership in the Socialist Workers Party. In addition to files on the above case, sometimes known as the “Minnesota labor case,” there are files on the committee's defense of Local 544 officers Kelly Postal and Carl Skoglund and on three marginally-related cases. Included are correspondence, legal records, publicity, clippings, and financial records.

Abstract: Commemorative rosters for various Wisconsin Civil War military units collected by the State Historical Society over time. The rosters are mainly printed on standard decorative forms, although some are hand-lettered and painted. Most are for individual companies, with a few for entire regiments or for field and staff officers only. There are also several for non-Wisconsin units such as the 36th Regiment (U.S. Colored Troops). The rosters list the officers, men, and often the history and record of the unit, and include company nicknames and occasional photographic portraits. They are arranged by branch of the Army, and thereunder by regiment and company. There are copy negatives (indicated by a negative number on the back of the item) available in the Visual Materials Archive for some of the rosters.
