Abstract: Papers of Melvin H. Wunsch, a career officer with the U.S. Social Security Administration (1936-1973), consisting of original documents gathered by Wunsch to illustrate his career and lengthy explanatory notes on agency policy, procedures, and personnel composed by Wunsch between 1973 and 1986. Major topics include the Social Security system; its management, field service, and administration; automation; Medicare; public relations; and staff training and development. Among the notable correspondents are Robert M. Ball and H.L. Mencken, as well as a variety of middle-level federal administrators. A small file of personal papers supplies additional information about Wunsch and illustrates his personal style and political convictions through correspondence with a range of friends and relatives. Also includes photographs and negatives of various subjects, such as: Wunsch's office, vacations, golf outings, and tennis matches.

Abstract: Records of the WUWM public radio station and the Mass Communication Department of UWM. Includes correspondence and subject files of WUWM concerning the programming, financing and technical needs of the station, and records of the Mass Communication Department documenting its relationship to the radio station as well as the curricular and publication activities of the department. Audio tape recordings of the College Talk, Grass Roots, East Side Issues, and miscellaneous programs document opinions and political campaigns of public officials, including Lloyd Barbee, John Doyne, Warren Knowles, Gaylord Nelson, Henry Reuss, and Clement Zablocki. The collection also includes a recording of Robert Kennedy speaking at a political rally for Patrick Lucey at UWM's Baker Field House on September 17, 1966. A number of recordings concern conditions and policies at Wisconsin prisons. The most recent addition to the collection consists of recordings of four UWM-related programs, University Roundtable, Milwaukee Ideas, UWM Today, and Chancellor's Report. These programs featured issues of interest to the UWM and Milwaukee community, such as electoral campaigns and college affordability, as well as updates on happenings at UWM itself.
