Of special note are campaign materials issued in behalf of Barry Goldwater in 1964 and one folder on the University of Wisconsin Committee to Support the People of South Vietnam.

Abstract: Diaries, 1850-1898, concerning Fagg's life in lumber camps along the Wisconsin River during the 1850s; service as a private in Company E, the 14th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, 1862-1863, including battles at Shiloh, Corinth, and Vicksburg; brief service, 1863, as a 2nd lieutenant, Company I, 47th United States Colored Troops; and his activities as a farmer and local public official in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin. Marriages that Fagg performed as a Justice of the Peace are also recorded, as are death records and military pension applications maintained by Fagg in his role as Post Adjutant of his local Grand Army of the Republic chapter. Also included is information about his immediate family, farm records and financial accounts, and a letter from his oldest daughter, then age 11, to her grandmother.

The correspondence focuses on his election campaigns and the personal and social aspects of Fairchild's public career, including the judge's interest in topics ranging from ethics to poetry and law. Abstract: Papers of Lucius Fairchild, a Wisconsin Civil War general, Dane County circuit court clerk (1859-1861), Republican governor (1866-1872), and United States consul and diplomatic representative (1872-1881); including general correspondence, records of his public offices, speeches and writings, diaries, business records, family papers, and photographs. The papers document Fairchild's varied career, including his military service, tenure as Dane County circuit county clerk, governor, and diplomat in Liverpool, Paris, and Madrid; as well as his involvement with the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and other Civil War veteran's organizations, the early history of Madison, the gold rush in California, and travels. The collection also contains e material related to several other members of the Fairchild family, including correspondence, business records (pertaining particularly to his father Jairus C. Fairchild's business interests), family papers, and photographs.

Abstract: Personal and professional papers of former Wisconsin State Supreme Court and Federal judge (Seventh Circuit Court in Chicago, 1966-1981) Thomas E. Fairchild. His professional papers document his tenure as a Wisconsin State Supreme Court Justice (1956-1966), his work as Chairman of the Constitutional Revision Commission in Madison, Wisconsin (1960-1965), and his role presiding over the famous appeal case of the Chicago Seven Conspiracy Trial (1968-1974). The most complete part of the collection is comprised of the various speeches given throughout his career, spanning the years 1948 to 1988. Also included is an oral history interview of Fairchild conducted by the Circuit Executive, Collins Fitzpatrick, in 1999, as well as materials pertaining to Fairchild's mother's (Endress) family genealogy.

Abstract: The Family & Children's Center located in La Crosse, Wisconsin, was formed in 1983 by the merger of the Family Services Association and the La Crosse Home for Children. The Center strives to operate a residential treatment facility for children with special care needs, as well as serve as an administrative and professional center for skilled personnel responsible for the specialized counseling needs of families and individuals. Previous names of the Family Services Association were the Wisconsin Humane Society of La Crosse, Social Service Society, Family Welfare Society and the Family Welfare Association. Previous names of the La Crosse Home for Children were La Crosse Home for Friendless Women and the La Crosse Home for Friendless Women and Children. The Family Services Association records (1881-1982) are extensive and include newspaper clippings, articles of incorporation and by-laws, board minutes and annual reports, financial records, agency evaluations, monthly statistical reports and other administrative files. A Humane officer's log is restricted. Records (1888-1983) of the La Crosse Home for Children are also extensive. Early materials include a "log of inmates" from 1888-1915, photographs of the Home and children that illustrate every day life in the Home, and newspaper clippings. Other records include by-laws (1888-1972), board of directors' committee materials and minutes (1888-1982), annual reports (1931-1981 with gaps), agency evaluations, licensing, externally produced reports, and financial records. A residential report file is restricted. Records (1983-1990) of the Family & Children's Center include historical materials and administrative files, such as merger documents and board meeting minutes, as well as some materials from the Douglas Center, a clinic that merged with the Family & Children's Center in 1994.

Abstract: Records, 1985, 1990-2013, of Family Farm Defenders, a grassroots family farmer advocacy organization, documenting its beginnings in the Dump the National Dairy Board Campaign, which began as a movement to hold a national referendum on the continuation of the mandatory dairy checkoff program which funds the National Dairy Board's promotion efforts, as well as concerns about the NDB's role in promoting the use of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) in dairy milk production. Also included are materials concerning the Family Farmer Cheese project, records of the American Raw Milk Producers Pricing Association (ARMPPA), and a few records of a predecessor organization, the Wisconsin Family Farm Defense Fund, established in 1985.

Abstract: Scrapbooks of news clippings on a La Crosse, Wisconsin, social service organization established in 1881, and successively known as the La Crosse County Branch of the Wisconsin Humane Society, the Social Services Society, and the Family Welfare Association. It is now affiliated with the National Family Service Association of America. The Association's programs include marital and family counseling; physical relief during times of illness, unemployment, and other crises; and Travelers' Aid. The clippings describe the activities of the Family Service Association and its predecessor organizations, and other La Crosse charities. The collection documents efforts by charitable organizations to combat the effects of economic depression and communicable diseases such as tuberculosis.

Abstract: Records of Family Service, a private social service organization founded as Associated Charities of Madison, Wisconsin in 1910 and subsequently known as Madison Public Welfare Association (1919-1933), and Madison Family Welfare Association (1933-1935). In 1935 it merged with the Children's Service Association to become the Family Welfare and Children's Service Association, and in 1945 it became Family Service. Included are annual reports, minutes, policy documents, subject files, correspondence, clippings, photographs, publications, and financial records. Most extensive and complete are the meeting minutes (1910-1994) which document changes in the mission and programming from an agency that coordinated charitable relief to a direct provider of community service programs and individual and family counseling. Well documented programs include day nurseries, and health clinics, USO/Travelers Aid services, a homemaker service, financial and domestic abuse counseling, and Neighborhood House, an Italian community center. Services geared to children include a tuberculosis camp, foster care placement, and the nationally recognized school-family counseling program Families and Schools Together (FAST). The subject files of President David Fraser (1985-1994) also provide substantial documentation on agency programs and policies. In addition, information on relationships with other community social service organizations may be found throughout the collection.

Abstract: Brief records of Family Service of Racine, Wis., a community service organization formed in 1910 by the merger of the Northside Boys' Club, Associated Charities, Racine Day Nursery Association, and the Big Sisters organization. The merged organization was known as the Central Association until 1951. Included are histories of the agency, board minutes (1910-1922 only), clipping scrapbooks (on microfilm only), posters and printed material from the Racine Community Welfare Fund, minutes of the Case Advisory Committee, 1935-1937, and lists of children enrolled in the child care program from 1910 through the 1960s. Photographs provide particularly strong documentation of the child care program from 1910 through the 1960s including activities, toys and equipment, and children's attire. There is also visual documentation of the Family Service facilities, staff, and its early clubs and athletic programs. Additional photographs document a study of substandard housing in Racine, circa 1910.

Abstract: Files of Lynn Farnol, director of advertising and publicity, consisting of correspondence, A-K only for January-June 1940. There are letters to and from the media, publishing companies, trade papers, theaters, and film production companies; extensive correspondence with United Artists (UA) branch managers and field agents, along with many inter-office memos, especially to and from UA vice president, G.D. Buckley; and a folder of employment applications. Subjects discussed include advertising budgets for pictures; premieres and other special events; and the solicitation of publicity in newspapers and magazines. Also treated are specific publicity ideas from Farnol and others, coordination of advertising policies with UA producers, and general personnel matters.

Abstract: Papers of Anne Farrar, a member of the San Francisco-based Socialist Revolution Collective during the 1970s, a member of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), and a member of the National Interim Committee of the New American Movement (NAM) during the first half of the same decade. NAM was a mass-based democratic socialist movement organized in November 1971 following the splintering of the New Left at the last convention of SDS in July 1969. Included are papers and posters concerning NAM, the women’s movement, other social action organizations, events, demonstrations, and issues in California during this time period.

Abstract: James T. Farrell was a novelist, journalist, and short story writer and very active in politics. He was a longtime friend of Frank Zeidler, former Milwaukee Mayor and socialist. He identified early in his life as a Communist and Marxist and was very active in Trotskyite politics, joining the Socialist Workers Party (SWP). As an author he became known for his realistic descriptions of the working class South Side Irish. In the early 1930s, he wrote his most famous works, the Studs Lonigan trilogy.

Abstract: Papers of Edward H. Farrington, a professor of dairy science at the University of Wisconsin, including correspondence, materials on the dairy industry, and family papers. The correspondence includes both personal and business correspondence with his brothers, Oliver C. Farrington, curator and geologist of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, and Wallace R. Farrington, governor of Hawaii (1921-1929), as well as with others. The materials concerning the dairy industry include articles, speeches, annotated manuscripts, clippings, documents relating to his patent for a butter tester, and lantern slides of equipment. The family papers include family photographs and ephemera. The collection also contains a scrapbook relating to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1893, and a copy of the will of Stephen M. Babcock, University of Wisconsin agricultural chemist.

Abstract: Records of the Fauerbach Brewing Company, Madison, Wisconsin (1870-1966), a company that produced beer and had a local Pepsi-Cola bottling franchise. The records consist primarily of the minutes of annual and special meetings of the board of directors from 1891 to 1966. Original stock certificates and transfer records, as well as dissolution papers are included. The papers also contain a fragmentary correspondence, some of it relating to prohibition.

Abstract: Originally a Town of Campbell school begun in 1867, the school continued to be called Campbell School until 1919, when the name was changed to Fauver Hill. Fauver Hill School joined the Onalaska School District in 1960, and continued to be used as an elementary school until 1983 when it became the Fauver Hill Kindergarten Center, housing all the kindergartners in the district. The Center closed in 1999. Materials include photographs, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, and many items compiled in preparation of the memory book, “Fauver Hill, 1867-1999,” published in honor of the closing of the school.

Abstract: The Campbell Library Association, established on Mar. 1, 1901, was organized with the purpose of starting and maintaining a library for the Town of Campbell in La Crosse County, Wis. Membership in the organization has been primarily women. Once the La Crosse County Library System was formed in 1923, the club began to shift its focus. The organization changed its name to Fauver Hill Study Club in October 1967, and is still active. Club programs focus on current events, slide presentations and tours of schools, museums, and institutions. Materials include written histories of the club, newspaper clippings, programs, original and transcripted minutes, and other miscellaneous items.

Abstract: Home movies and photographs about the domestic life and careers of several generations of the Faville family of La Crosse and Madison, Wisconsin. Documented members of the family include Henry Faville (1847-1926), a Congregational minister; his son Theodore Rush Faville (1881-1955), also a minister and the superintendent of the Wisconsin Congregational Conference; and Theodore's son, Henry Esch Faville, a commercial photographer in Madison. The majority of the photographs were taken by Theodore, a talented amateur, and by Henry Esch Faville, although some photographs may have been taken by Charles R. Wicks, field superintendent for the Conference, and by friends.

Abstract: Papers of the Reverend Henry Faville, minister of the First Congregational Church of La Crosse, Wisconsin, 1888-1913, who earlier served the Methodist Episcopal Church in Oshkosh, 1883-1886. Included are sermons; summaries of sermons; diaries, 1865-1930; an 1899 address; and an account book of benevolences. Also present are three brief diaries of his wife, Harriet Conant Faville, and a typed record of marriages performed.

Abstract: Papers, 1894-1967, of Theodore Rush Faville, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Kenosha (1913-1918) and the First Congregational Church of Oshkosh (1918-1922), who was appointed superintendent of the Wisconsin Congregational Conference in 1922. Included are sermons, a pastor's register from the Oshkosh Congregational Church, correspondence, and a few addresses by Faville on secular topics. Faville was the son of the Reverend Henry Faville of La Crosse whose papers are separately cataloged. Together, the two collections provide excellent representation of Congregational thought in Wisconsin over a half century.
