Abstract: Personal and business papers of Michael B. Olbrich, a Madison, Wisconsin, attorney and civic leader. In politics a Progressive Republican, Olbrich was deputy attorney general for Wisconsin, 1919-1921, special counsel for the state, 1921-1926, and a regent of the University of Wisconsin, 1925-1929. General correspondence relates primarily to Olbrich's political interests prior to 1920, to legal cases which he handled for the state, and to University affairs during his years as regent. In his political correspondence are letters written by or exchanged with Robert M. La Follette, John J. Blaine, and Emanuel L. Philipp. More than half of the collection comprises correspondence, financial records, and court papers pertaining to the land and sheep-ranch speculations in Montana in which Olbrich engaged from 1909 until his death. Most of these records relate to the Judith Basin Land Company, the Home Ranch Land Company, and the Flat Willow Land Company.

Abstract: A collection of oral history interviews of 11 individuals, conducted by Ruby West Jackson and Walter T. McDonald for Old World Wisconsin. The interviews were carried out in 1998 as part of the museum's research into African American settlement in Wisconsin, specifically Pleasant Ridge, a farming community in Grant County.

Abstract: Papers of John M. Olin, a Madison, Wisconsin, attorney and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin Law School who was Prohibitionist candidate for governor in 1886 and later attorney for the Stalwart Republicans. The bulk of the collection is outgoing correspondence. Also includes incoming correspondence, docket books of his law cases, travel diaries, family papers, and photographs. The correspondence includes transcribed letters to Helen Remington Olin (his wife) from her family while she was a student at the University of Wisconsin.

Abstract: Papers of Olkives, a Kenosha, Wis., alderman and labor leader, primarily concerning the local post-World War II housing shortage, and the annual AFL-CIO sponsored city-wide bowling tournaments. The papers reflect Olkives' service as vice-chairman of the Kenosha Housing Authority, and as business manager and treasurer of the Brittles Recreation Match Bowling Team. Also present are typewritten and printed speeches delivered by Olkives to union conventions, and bowling tournament programs.

Abstract: Papers (mainly 1960-1980) of a history professor at the Milwaukee State Teachers College, Wisconsin State College, Milwaukee, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) and the University of Wisconsin-Extension who taught from 1946 to 1985. The collection documents the professional and volunteer activities of Olson and contains teaching materials, personal and professional correspondence, book reviews and articles, and speeches and seminars given to local history supporters. Also contains materials concerning UWM committees on which Olson served such as the Golda Meir Collection Planning Committee, the University Appeals Committee, the History Department's Committee on Graduate Affairs, the Physical Environment Committee's subcommittee on Parking and Transit, the Presidential Search and Screening Committee and the On-campus Course Development Committee. Includes Olson's files on the preservation of the Milwaukee-Downer College buildings, especially Holton Hall.

Abstract: Papers, 1960-1973, of Jack B. Olson, a former Wisconsin lieutenant governor and leader in the tourist industry, consisting of correspondence, speeches, minutes, press releases, campaign literature, and other press material pertaining to his third term as lieutenant governor, 1968-1970, and his unsuccessful campaign for governor in 1970. Correspondence, 1969-1973, with Richard M. Nixon, whom Olson supported, and his aides is also included. Other prominent correspondents include Warren Knowles, Ronald Reagan, Wilbur Renk, George Romney, and William B. Steiger.

Abstract: Business records of eight cooperatives in which Olson was an active member: Dairyland Power Cooperative, Wisconsin Electric Cooperative, Wisconsin Electric Cooperative Association, Wisconsin Association of Cooperatives, Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives, Insurance Cooperative Agency, Badger Electric Cooperative, and Barron Electric Cooperative, spanning thirty-three years of cooperative development in Wisconsin. The records were collected by Olson during his term as an officer or director of the several cooperatives and consist mainly of board of director's minutes, committee minutes and reports, engineering reports, financial statements and annual and district meeting material. The records of Dairyland Power Cooperative dominate the collection with varying amounts of material from the other cooperatives and a very few biographical items primarily referring to Olson's successful 1949 campaign for the Wisconsin State Senate as a Democrat representing Barron, Polk and Dunn counties.

Abstract: Papers of radio and television personalities Johnny Olson and Penny (Powers) Olson consisting of biographical material, correspondence, material from the Olsons' professional activities, publicity about the Olsons both separately and as a couple, photographs, films and videos, and audio recordings. Johnny Olson, who began his career as a radio announcer before emceeing a number of popular radio shows including Ladies Be Seated and Rumpus Room, made the successful transition from radio to television, eventually appearing on all three major networks (ABC, CBS, and NBS) on numerous shows including The Jackie Gleason Show, The Dom DeLuise Show, and The Price Is Right. Penny Olson's career included work on air and in front of the camera serving as hostess for both Ladies Be Seated and Rumpus Room as well as behind the scenes as an early pioneer of corporate sponsorship deals and merchandise giveaways. Eventually Penny Olson shifted her attention to a music career, in particular gospel music, recording and performing on the air.

The collection documents his work as a writer and lecturer of Scandinavian history and culture, as well as his interest in the authenticity of the Kensington Rune Stone, and his involvement in university affairs, particularly its scholarships and loans committee. The collection includes incoming correspondence from friends, students, and other Scandinavian scholars; scrapbooks; lecture notebooks; literary articles; biographical sketches of scholars and friends; and patriotic addresses.

Abstract: Papers of Robert K. Olson, a former Foreign Service Officer. The collection contains papers documenting his career, as well as continued work in international relations and environmental issues following his retirement in 1976; correspondence with family, friends, professional, and to legislators and the media; writings on foreign affairs, the environment, and school papers; journals and other papers documenting his experience in Vietnam. Correspondence covers contemporary events such as September 11, 2001 and the aftermath. Also includes yearbooks and commencement programs; Olson and Uhrenholdt family histories; and papers relating to running the Uhrenholdt Farm following his retirement. Photographs and scrapbooks document his family, service during World War II, and Foreign Service years. Papers of Yvonne Olson, Robert's wife, as well as his parents, Sigurd F. Olson and Elizabeth Olson, are also included.

Abstract: Papers, 1916-2003, of Sigurd Ferdinand Olson, a nationally-known conservation advocate, outdoorsman, and writer who was raised in Ashland, Wisconsin, but lived in Ely, Minnesota during most of his adult life. The collection consists primarily of personal and family correspondence. Olson's literary career is also represented, including editorial correspondence, notes for public speaking and teaching, and book manuscripts for Listening Point (1958) and Of Time and Place (1982). Personal papers of his wife, Elizabeth Uhrenholdt Olson, are also included. Photographs document canoe trips in Minnesota and Canada, family life in Ely and Ashland, professional activities, and post-World War II conditions in Europe.
