Abstract: Mueller Mirror and Art Glass Works, formerly the Milwaukee Mirror and Art Glass Works, made and furnished mirrors and stained glass windows for local and out-of-state churches, businesses, and private residences. The bulk of the records are window design drawings of flora, geometric patterns, and religious figures and symbols. Religious depictions include Christ, the Holy Family, Saints, the Cross, and the Star of David. A client ledger, advertisements, drawings of literary characters, and photographs of stained glass window installations are also included in the collection.

Abstract: Papers of Donald Mueller, former faculty member of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, consisting of his avocational research into the history of urban public mass transit, George Francis Train, and the street railway industry in Milwaukee. Contents include photographs (largely in slide format), correspondence, research files, manuscripts, and ephemera and collectibles. While a few collected items including photographs date from the turn or middle of the twentieth century, the collection was compiled by Mueller in the 1980s and early 1990s when he was most active in his public transport collecting and research.

Abstract: Microfilmed papers of Erhart Mueller, a farmer and local historian who collected material and wrote about the Town of Sumpter, Sauk County, Wisconsin. Included are scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, notes, histories of area families, genealogical charts and data, transcribed diaries, correspondence, snippets of conversations, and photographs. Especially well documented are the Accola, Kindschi, and Mueller families, to whom Mueller was related, as well as the Haskin, Huddleston, Ochsner, Ragatz, Sprecher, and Waterbury families. Similarly diverse materials document area cemeteries, churches, schools, organizations, and places, especially the Badger Ordnance Works, which was constructed during World War II, Badger Village (later Bluffview Courts, a retirement community originally constructed as subsidized housing for Badger Ordnance Works), the Free Congregation of Sauk City, Salem Evangelical Church, the Witwen camp meetings, and Stone's Pocket School. The research of Walter Doll, historian of Prairie du Sac, is also represented. There are also minutes and scrapbooks of the Sauk City Gun Club, the Sauk City Women's Club, and the Sauk Prairie Farmers Club.

Abstract: Papers of Merrill Mueller, a prominent journalist best known for his news reporting for the National Broadcasting Company (1944-1968). Included are biographical clippings, photographs, and publicity; fragmentary correspondence primarily concerning the internal operations of NBC and INS (for whom he also reported early in his career); news stories and radio scripts (many of them eyewitness accounts) concerning World War II, the Palestine Crisis (1947), and the NASA program (1961-1974); several drafts of “The Great Crusade,” an unpublished book concerning his experiences as a correspondent during World War II; and other writings. The World War II materials, which are only available on microfilm, include an extensive run of dispatches sent to Newsweek from Northern Africa (1942-1943) and radio scripts for NBC pertaining to his coverage of General Eisenhower's headquarters, 1944-1945, written for NBC and for the World Press Pool whose representative he was at Allied headquarters. Prominent correspondents in the collection include Mark Clark, Dwight Eisenhower, Julian Goodman, Ray Henle, Elmer Lower, and William R. McAndrew. Recordings of several news reports are included with the papers.

Abstract: Papers of Virgil J. Muench, a Green Bay, Wisconsin attorney, concerning his activities in the Green Bay Trade Independent Association, an organization of small businessmen who promoted local ownership and free enterprise; and his activities in Wisconsin conservation causes, especially the Izaak Walton League's fight, 1949-1954, against construction of a dam in Washburn County by the Namekagon Hydro Company. Included is correspondence, legal papers, articles and speeches by Muench, and other papers.

Abstract: Microfilmed papers collected by civil rights worker Joan Trumpauer Mulholland, consisting almost entirely of clipping scrapbooks about sit-in demonstrations, individuals in the civil rights movements, and other protest activities throughout the South. Miscellaneous papers consist of a few news releases, bulletins, and reports. There are also a few personal letters written to Mulholland.

Abstract: Papers of Fitzhugh Mullan, a pediatrician and health activist who worked with the Student Health Organization (SHO) in Chicago and the Lincoln Hospital Collective in New York, and served as director of the National Health Service Corps, Bureau of Community Health Services. In 1976 Mullan published a book on his experiences in New York called White Coat, Clenched Fist. The collection includes SHO communications, proposals for a SHO National Service Center, minutes of Collective and departmental meetings at Lincoln Hospital, and information about the 1971 billing action. There are also many articles written by Mullan and a corrected typescript of his book, as well as many SHO publications.

The collection consists of diaries, reminiscences by Reverend Muller, family record books, account books, and some biographical information. The entire collection is written in German with some English translations of the diaries.

Abstract: Arnold Munkel (1918-2003) was a mechanic and welder from Spring Grove, Minnesota. He was a dedicated documentarian of Norwegian-American folk music from southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa. His recordings are a mix of home, private event, public and festival performances. The collection also includes local festival programs, Munkel's personal records of the performers and instruments represented on the tapes, song books, and other materials. Several of the recordings include announcements or introductions by Munkel, such as audiotape reel 23 (Box 4), on which Munkel relates an anecdote of his visit to Stonehenge during World War II. Munkel's personal recordings and thorough documentation of these performances represent a unique collection of Norwegian American folk music in the Upper Midwest.

The collection documents her work on legislation related to natural resources and the environment, marital property, mental health, developmental disabilities, education, and land use.

Abstract: Collection consists of approximately 2,600 images (both negatives and prints), most of them taken by Milwaukee, Wisconsin commercial photographer James Blair Murdoch. Some images, particularly the Standard Oil Company images, were identified as "their negs" and may not have been taken by Murdoch. Many of the images in the collection are related to area businesses, such as advertising and insurance agencies, department stores, manufacturing industries, and service stations. Particularly numerous are photographs pertaining to Boston Store, Holland Furnace Company, Standard Oil Company, Wadhams Oil Company, and the Wisconsin Telephone Company. Images in the collection document business presentations, offices and employees, building exteriors, store interiors and sale-day crowds, fashion modeling and style shows, parties, gas stations, manufacturing and the production process, including many of women at work. The collection also contains images relating to Marquette University, Milwaukee-Downer College, Mount Mary College, and Spencerian Business College, as well as photographs from several local grade schools. Photographs document school activities, sports, student groups, and graduation. Photographs relating to the Milwaukee Athletic Club, Boy Scouts, and some family-related images, including weddings, residences, and pets, are also found in the collection.

Abstract: Papers of Joseph Lafayette Murphy, a Lutheran minister from Tennessee, and his wife, Clara Falk, from Stoughton, Wisconsin. Included is correspondence, business documents, sermons, programs, poems, articles, newspaper clippings, and photographs. The correspondence documents the relationship between the couple before and after their 1894 marriage, as well as small town life in Wisconsin and elsewhere, and provides commentary on national political and social events of the late nineteenth century. One letter notes the lynching of a black man in Tennessee. The letters of Clara Falk Murphy include information on her work as a voice teacher. The clippings concern several controversial sermons by Murphy, including one on his views on race relations in America and the reaction of the congregation to these views.

Abstract: Papers and photographs of Morton B. Murphy, an officer in the United States Navy Reserve who served as a night fighter pilot on the carriers USS Saratoga and USS Monterey during World War II. The collection includes personal correspondence, military papers, veterans reunion correspondence, and photographs. The bulk of the collection are correspondence between Murphy and his wife, Alys, while he was in the service. The letters from Morton discuss military life, his time in flight school, and active service aboard aircraft carriers. Some letters mention his combat experience, such as shooting down enemy planes. Alys writes about her daily life on the home front during the war and including her studies at the University of Iowa. Military papers include flight training materials, military orders, promotion notices, and commendations and certificates. Also included is correspondence pertaining to his participation in a veterans group consisting of former members of VF-34 squadron, which he served with during the war. The photographs consist of aerial photographs of Japan, and images of naval bases, which include training barracks, airplanes, and pilots preparing for flights. Also included are a few photographs taken during a reunion with former members of his squadron.

Abstract: Papers of Danial Murray, a prominent Afro-American historian and bibliographer who worked at the Library of Congress between 1871 and 1922, and during his lifetime compiled an “Encyclopedia of the Colored Race.” Including over 25,000 biographical sketches and over 6000 titles of black-authored publications, the six-volume encyclopedia was never published. The papers include extensive correspondence, 1893-1925; notes and biographical sketches for the encyclopedia; materials documenting efforts to publish the encyclopedia; speeches and articles; business papers; programs and brochures; and family papers. The papers also document Murray's civic activities such as his work with the Colored American Council. Primary correspondents include Murray's wife, Anna Jane Evans Murray, and two sons, Daniel Evans Murray and George Henry Murray.

Abstract: Papers of Murray, a Democrat state legislator who represented the city of Superior and the 73rd Assembly District from 1973 to 1982. Included are correspondence, memoranda, speeches, press releases, and subject files that document many issues of concern to Superior and Douglas County and numerically arranged bill files concerning general legislation of the 1977-1978 and 1981-1982 sessions. Among the prominent issues are UW-Superior during the post-merger era of the University of Wisconsin System, the Brule River area, a proposed tax injurious to the Murphy Oil Company, and the economic development of the Port of Superior. Two folders about the Assembly Transportation Committee in this collection are actually the files of Assemblyman Kevin Soucie, chair of that committee, 1979-1980.

Abstract: The Music Study Club in La Crosse, Wisconsin, began in 1911 as a married women’s group. Soon after, single women were allowed to join. The Club promoted study and appreciation of musical art among its members and encourages the cultivation of music in the community. Men were allowed to join in 1972. It is thought that the group disbanded sometime after 1983. This collection includes yearbooks or membership booklets from 1921-1983, as well as programs, 1919-1950 and many undated, and newspaper articles. While the club members performed musical numbers and programs themselves, they also brought in nationally known talent up through the 1920s. As a result, many performers’ promotional photographs (1920s) and contracts from the 1920s are included that were arranged by Elise (Lovold) Cilley (Mrs. Percy L. Cilley). Some performances were sponsored by the La Crosse Music Club and some were underwritten by Mrs. Cilley herself.

Abstract: Papers of Terry M. Musser, a Republican Representative who served the 92nd District representing Clark, Jackson, and Monroe Counties in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1984 to 2008. The bulk of the collection relates entirely to Musser's service with the Wisconsin State Assembly. The constituent correspondence includes letters from Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, Governor Tommy Thompson and President George H.W. Bush. Veterans affairs dominate the subject files but also include files relating to Jackson County Correctional Facility, Fort McCoy, Indian affairs, Hmong culture, and equitable child support, an issue that Musser supported through the cosponsoring of several bills in the 1990s.
