Title: Wisconsin Federal Art Project Records, 1931-1954 Quantity: 3.2 cubic feet (8 archives boxes and 1 card file), 7 reels of microfilm (35 mm), and 0.3 cubic feet of photographs (1 archives box and 1 folder) Call Number: Mss 1; Micro 1036; PH 1363; PH 4201 Abstract: The Federal Art Project (FAP) in Wisconsin was instituted in 1935 as part of the Works Progress Administration. Employing artists, musicians, actors, and writers, the FAP focused upon nationalist and patriotic themes and successfully spread original art to many small American towns. In 1943 the Federal Art Project, like the rest of the WPA, was disbanded. The Project in Wisconsin was headed by Charlotte R. Partridge, director of the Layton Art Gallery in Milwaukee. She was succeeded in this position in 1941 by Margaret D. Clark. The records include correspondence, two separate series of biographical sketches of Wisconsin artists, clippings, records of works produced by the Project, and material relating to the Index of American Design.
Federal Writers' Project	Title: Federal Writers' Project: Oneida Culture Oral History Project Records, 1940-1942 Quantity: 4.6 c.f. (18 archives boxes, 1 flat box, and 1 card box) Call Number: Green Bay Mss 164 Abstract: Records of a WPA project to document the history and culture of the Oneida in Wisconsin, conducted through the University of Wisconsin. The records consist primarily of a series of notebooks from oral history interviews that took place between 1941 and 1942 that were conducted by Oneida tribe members under the direction of UW anthropologists. The interviews concern such topics as Oneida history, family life, religion, economic conditions, education, medicine, hunting and fishing, recreation, traditional stories and jokes, the Workers' Alliance, the Six Nations Confederacy, and the Oneida Indian Cooperative Association. Also included are Employment Eligibility Surveys conducted by the interviewers, focusing on the education level and work experience of tribe members, maps of Oneida Village and the surrounding area, and an index card file of citations, principally from the Green Bay Gazette, of news articles relating to the Oneida tribe from 1898-1904 and 1931-1940.
Federal Writers' Project of the Works Progress Administration (Wis.)	Title: Milwaukee Guide Manuscripts, 1872-1945 Quantity: 2 cubic ft. (6 boxes) Call Number: Local History Manuscript Collection 369 Abstract: The American Guide Series – books providing essays on the history, culture, major cities, automobile tours, important attractions and photographs of each locale – proved to be one of the most popular efforts undertaken by the Federal Writers’ Project. The Milwaukee Guide was intended to add to the American Guide Series, while providing employment for Milwaukee writers and editors. The collection contains drafts of articles, essays, guides and manuscripts on Milwaukee, Milwaukee County and Wisconsin area subjects written for the WPA Federal Writer’s Project. These materials were created and collected to be incorporated into the unpublished Metropolitan Milwaukee Guide. Among the subjects covered are: industries, institutions, labor and social history, natural history, recreation activities, landmarks, social services, histories of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County and Wisconsin.

(5 archives boxes and 1 package) Call Number: Green Bay Mss 40 Abstract: Minutes of the executive board, 1907-1940; correspondence, mainly 1938-1944, including letters from the American Federation of Labor, the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor, and Wisconsin congressmen on labor legislation, information on wartime wage scales for the building trades, and letters concerning the council's community and charitable work; financial records, 1895-1926; and roll call and payment books that serve as membership records for individuals and organizations. Also included are minutes of the Building Crafts Council, 1933-1940.

(6 archives boxes) and 5 photographs Call Number: Milwaukee Mss DR; PH 408 Abstract: Correspondence, reports, and agreements, 1903-1940. Letters are written mainly by general secretaries Frank J. Weber and Herman Seide and include information on labor legislation, the National Recovery Administration's activities in Milwaukee, old age pensions, collective bargaining, and inter-union disputes. Also present is material on the laundry workers' strike of 1934, a minute book, 1900-1903, minutes of the executive board, 1915-1939, financial and other records, and photographs.

Included are constitutions, officers' correspondence, publications, directories of organizations and events, and an historical scrapbook.
Feierabend, Otto W.	Title: Otto W. Feierabend Papers, Still Images and Moving Images, Quantity: 0.9 linear ft. (1 archives box and 2 flat boxes) of papers, 0.9 linear ft. (1 archives box, 3 flat boxes, and 3 oversized folders) of still images, and 0.6 linear ft. (3 film cans, 1 digital betacam tape, and 6 DVDs) of moving images. Call Number: WVM Mss 969 Abstract: Papers, photographs, and video recordings pertaining to the service of Otto W. Feierabend, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin resident who served with the Chicago Ordnance District (U.S. Army) during World War II, and also participated with the Citizens' Military Training Camps (CMTC) and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) prior to the war. Manuscripts in the collection mostly pertain to his time as an Army officer with the Chicago Ordnance District. Included are notebooks, memorandums, evaluations, communications, and special orders from his time as chief of the Carriage, Recoil, and Anti-Aircraft Section, Artillery Branch, and his appointment as a production planning and control officer after the war. Records from his time at the CCC include accident investigation reports and instructions for improved menus at all CCC camps. Manuscripts from his CMTC training include an outline of the mission of the CMTC and photocopies of selected pages from training camp yearbooks. Additional manuscripts include biographical materials, correspondence (letters, postcards, and V-mail) from friends and relatives who also served in the war, and certificates concerning his later veteran activities. There are two clipping scrapbooks. One contains articles from “The Reserve Officer” magazine, while the other has news clippings from September 1939 addressing the outbreak of World War II. Three photo albums in the collection, each cover the three elements of his military service. Providing a glimpse of training received by program participants, the CMTC album has images of soldiers in training, various camp sites, and group photographs. CCC album images show work performed at various sites in Wisconsin and include campsite scenes, men working and posing for the camera, and scenic Wisconsin views. Although the Chicago Ordnance District album primarily depicts office work and meetings, there are also some images of soldiers training, construction of artillery carriages, and Feierabend relaxing with fellow employees. Loose photographs are similar to those found in the three photo albums. Although Feierabend was not assigned to the European Theater, there are also images taken in Europe, possibly sent to him by relatives and friends serving overseas during the war. These include some Signal Corps photographs taken in the field, but most were taken in Paris after its liberation. The video recordings are original 8mm film, taken presumably by Feierabend during Officers Reserve Corps training. The three films include footage of the campsite, men working around camp, and training maneuvers. Of particular interest is footage of men undergoing gas training, and several tanks demonstrating their maneuverability and firepower.
Feinberg, Gordon, 1915-1990	Title: Gordon Feinberg Papers Physical Description: 2.0 cubic feet Call Number: MSS 026 Abstract: Records, 1949-1990, of a La Crosse County (Wisconsin) Board Supervisor that include subject files of county issues, mainly dating from 1954-1981. The materials include county board resolutions, incomplete committee minutes, and committee actions, organized by subject. The materials emphasize Feinberg's involvement particularly in the social services and administrative committees; law enforcement, financial and property and zoning issues in La Crosse County. He was particularly concerned with aging issues and the County's medical institutions. The collection does not contain biographical information concerning Feinberg.
Feinglass, Abe, 1910-	Title: United Food and Commercial Workers Union Retired Leaders Oral History Project: Abe Feinglass Interview, 1981 Extent: 4 tape recordings Call Number: Tape 904A Abstract: Oral history interview, June 9, 1981, with Abe Feinglass about his experiences as president of the International Fur and Leather Workers (1954-1955) then as a vice-president of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America after merger. Interviewed by James Cavanaugh of the Historical Society staff, this interview is part of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Retired Leaders Oral History Project.
Feingold, Miriam	Title: Miriam Feingold Papers, 1960-1967 Quantity: 0.1 c.f. (1 oversize folder), 2 reels of microfilm (35mm), and 4 tape recordings Call Number: Mss 859; Micro 845; Tape 528A Abstract: Papers and tapes of civil rights activist Miriam Feingold describing demonstrations, prison experiences, treatment of local blacks, and other topics regarding her work which was primarily in Mississippi and Louisiana. Included are correspondence (with several letters written on toilet paper by imprisoned civil rights activists in Plaquemine, Louisiana), notebooks, voter registration material, reports, speeches, leaflets, and clippings. The tapes record Feingold's interviews with local blacks and civil rights workers in Bogalusa, Clinton, Tullulah, Jonesboro, Jackson, Lisbon, Church Point, and Greensburg, Louisiana, and Liberty, Mississippi; among those interviewed are Gayle Jenkins, E. W. Steptoe, and Annie Purnell Johnson.
Feinsinger, Nathan	Title: Nathan Feinsinger Papers, circa 1938-1966 Quantity: 4.0 cubic feet (4 records center cartons) Call Number: M73-236 Abstract: Papers of Nathan Feinsinger, an arbitator, mediator, and government official in matters of wage determination and dispute settlements. The papers include a 1952 recommendation of the National Wage Stabilization Board (chaired by Feinsinger), and the ensuing steel strike; a 1946 steel strike in which Feinsinger chaired a presidential fact finding board; labor cases in which Feinsinger acted as an attorney for the Wisconsin Labor Relations Board; materials on General Motors-United Auto Workers grievances which he umpired; and a civil rights controversy involving the NAACP Youth Council of Milwaukee and the Fraternal Order of Eagles (1966) which he mediated. Also included are speeches, writings, and a small amount of correspondence.

Feldman used the research notes and documents to write and publish the book, The buildings of the University of Wisconsin published in 1997. Materials include hand-written and typed research notes, newspaper clippings, press releases, reports, prints and drawings of various buildings and spaces, and other miscellaneous published materials.

The centerpiece of the collection is audio and videotaped interviews and broadcasts on issues pertaining to Milwaukee in the 1980's and early 1990's, including the trial of mob boss Frank Balistreri on charges of gambling and money laundering; Lawrencia Bembenek's escape from prison, flight to Canada, and extradition; the Jeffrey Dahmer serial killings and trial; and Michael McGee and corruption in Milwaukee City and County Government. In addition to the audio and videotapes, the collection contains correspondence, photographs, materials relating to a variety of honors and awards Feldmeyer received, copies of columns he wrote in the late 1990's for the City Edition and The Paper, and a wide selection of journalism memorabilia.

Included are Take Over's administrative, financial, legal, and subject files, correspondence, photographs, print and near-print ephemera, posters, bumper stickers, and clippings. Also included are copies of FBI files mainly concerning individuals, organizations, and events in Madison, 1959-1977; similar materials from the Madison Police Department Affinity Files, 1968-1977; and tape recordings of speeches and interviews by Fellner, about 1973-1979, with Emile de Antonio, Harvey Goldberg, William Kunstler, Paul Soglin, members of the Weather Underground Organization, and former FBI agents and others.

The oral histories consist of interview recordings, transcripts, as well as correspondence with, photographs of, and biographical information about interviewees. Interviewees describe their upbringing, family relationships, and sexual experiences in matter-of-fact and explicit terms. The collection also contains research materials used for writing the book, the interview protocol, early drafts of the manuscript, and publicity and promotional materials.

The traveling exhibit was a collaboration between author Will Fellows and photographer Jeff Pearcy.

The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, manuscript drafts, research material, notes and reviews of some of her novels, short stories, and autobiographical writings. Of these, Cimarron (1929), Giant (1952), Great Son (1944), and Ice Palace (1958) are best represented. Also included are materials related to theatre scripts such as collaborations with George F. Kaufman and George V. Hobart, as well as adaptations (including many film adaptations) of her work by others. Prominent correspondents include Louis Bromfield, Noel Coward, Jay N. Darling, Moss Hart and Kitty Carlisle Hart, Malcolm Johnson, Daniel Longwell, Kenneth D. McCormick, H.L. Mencken, William Lyon Phelps, Robert Sherwood, Louis Untermeyer, Alexander Woollcott, Rebecca West, and William Allen White.

On microfilm are press releases and extensive biographical clippings. Especially well documented are his work on privacy, alternative energy technology, and product liability.
