Abstract: Records of Tillman Brothers, a furniture and undertaking establishment founded in 1859 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, by Friedrich and Wilhelm Tillman, and operated by three generations of their descendants. Included are ledgers, cash books, day books, and an account book for 1861-1872; a stock inventory, 1868; price lists from 1872 to 1899; and the original and translations of a diary kept by Friedrich Tillman when he sailed to America from Germany in 1856.

Abstract: Papers of Timothy A. Hardgrove, a Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, dentist, relating largely to the campaign for fluoridation of public water supplies. Included is correspondence with other dentists interested in fluoridation, including John Frisch of Madison, Wis., and Frederick McKay of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and with officers of the American Dental Association and the Wisconsin State Dental Association; minutes of meetings of the fluoridation study committee of the State Dental Association of which Hardgrove was chairman; and materials relating to his research on the relationship between dental abnormality and tic douloureux (muscular twitching of the face).

Abstract: Legislative papers of a Democratic State Senator (1974-) from Janesville who served as majority leader (1982-). The papers chiefly consist of files on two committees which Cullen chaired: the Senate Committee on Aging, Business and Financial Institutions, and Transportation and the Legislative Council's Committee on Mining. The former includes correspondence, memoranda, notes, clippings, reports and research material concerning mortgage subsidization plans, raising the drinking age, property tax deferrals for the elderly, the appointment of Owen Ayres to head the Department of Transportation, and other matters considered by the committee. Mining Committee files include similar documentation as well as agenda, summary meeting transcripts, and public hearing statements. Also included are files on several mining subcommittees Cullen headed, most notably the Subcommittee on Uranium Exploration and Safety. Taken together, the Mining Committee files concern taxation and safety issues raised by mining company exploration of northern Wisconsin during the late 1970's and early 1980's

Abstract: Papers of Tomothy O. Howe, a Green Bay, Wis., attorney who was United States senator, 1861-1879, and postmaster general, 1881-1883. The major portion of the collection consists of typewritten copies of letters that Howe wrote to his niece, Grace T. Howe of Kenosha, Wis., in which he recorded in an informal and intimate manner his impressions of the social and political scene in Washington, D.C., and in Wisconsin. The collection also includes some original letters of David Atwood, Matthew H. Carpenter, Hamilton Fish, Ulysses S. Grant, Horace Rublee, Edwin M. Stanton, and Charles A. Sumner, dealing with political and economic issues.
