Abstract: Papers of a former vice-president for television programming at CBS, primarily consisting of scripts related to his tenure as executive producer for the anthology series ABC Stage '67. Included are teleplays and drafts by Truman Capote, Jerome Chodorov, Sam Peckinpah, Eleanor Perry, and Murray Schisgal; an interview of Dwight D. Eisenhower by Alistair Cooke; and a comedy special with David Frost. Also included are 11 film reviews for Critic-at-Large (NBC) and a number of speeches and non-fiction articles, including several highly critical of the television industry.

Title: “Hudson's Bay” Films: ZIV-TV Productions, United Artists Corporation Records, 1959-1960

Abstract: Hudson's Bay was a television series produced by Northstar Productions and distributed by United Artists Television Inc. The series lasted for one season, producing 39 episodes; all of which are found in this collection. Each episode runs approximately 30 minutes. The series follows the fictional adventures of Johnathan Banner (played by Barry Nelson), the chief trader of the Hudson Bay Fur Company, and his guide Pierre Falcon (played by George Tobias). The final episode was produced by Meridian Productions. George Tobias was replaced by actor Pedro Gonzales Gonzalez, who plays Pepe Falcon. All of the episodes were filmed in Canada, except the final episode, which was filmed in Hollywood. Canadian directors Sidney J. Furie and Alvin Rakoff produced and directed twenty-nine and eight episodes, respectively.

Abstract: Personal and family papers preserved by Mary Huesmann Green, Chicago, Illinois, largely concerning her ancestors in the Huesmann, Baldwin, Bonner, and Mercer families of Virginia and Ohio. The papers consist of genealogical charts and notes, newsclippings of obituaries, letters and other documents, photographs, diaries (1856-1857) of J. W. Baldwin, and diaries kept by Mary Green while traveling in Europe and South America. The letters and diaries mainly concern personal activities of various family members.

Abstract: Interviews conducted by Thomas Huffman with three Wisconsin political figures concentrating on environmentalism in Wisconsin after World War II. Interviewees are Senator Gaylord Nelson, Governor Warren P. Knowles, and Lester Voight, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Topics include state and federal conservation roles, regional splits in Wisconsin conservation, the establishment and impact of state government bodies, water pollution, and Earth Day. Summary abstracts of the interviews are included in paper form.

Abstract: Papers of Hugh M. Jones, the military governor of Aachen in Occupied Germany after World War II, 1945-1946. Included are samples of work done in 1943 at the Civil Affairs Training School established by the United States Army at the University of Wisconsin, handbooks on the establishment and maintenance of Allied Military Government in Germany, newspaper clippings about Jones' military career, and posters printed by the Military Government.

Abstract: Photographs created by Hugo Schneiders, a dentist, nature conservationist, and sportsman from Wausau, Wisconsin. The majority of the photographs reflect his interest in nature conservation, especially fisheries and deer management, and include many images of deer hunting and fishing in northern Wisconsin in the early 1900s through 1970. Also included are images of social activities taken during his years attending dental school at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (circa 1914), and his dental practice in Marathon, Wisconsin (circa 1915-1929), and in Wausau, Wisconsin (circa 1930-1970).

Abstract: Formed in 1993, the Human Rights League (HRL) strove "to advance the political interests of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgendered in the metropolitan Milwaukee area by influencing local, state, and national politics, legislation, and public policy." HRL carried out its work through four standing committees: Public Information, Membership and Funding, National Coming Out Day, and Legislative and Public Policy. HRL surveyed electoral candidates for their positions on LGBT issues; recommended and endorsed candidates for local, state, and national elections; held annual receptions at which members of the LGBT community met with public officials; and distributed political information. In 1997, HRL formed a political action committee to raise and distribute funds in support of pro-LGBT candidates. HRL worked with the Milwaukee Police Department to train police recruits on LGBT issues. It also held two annual award programs--the Cream City Brick Awards and the National Coming Out Day Awards--that recognized the contributions of LGBT and pro-LGBT individuals, businesses, and organizations to the community.

Abstract: Mounted photographs from the Community Camera Project "Human Values and Public Priorities" exhibit, in which photographers from throughout Wisconsin were invited to interpret the theme human values at stake in public taxing and spending. Winning entries were exhibited. The contest, supported by the Wisconsin Humanities Committee, was completed in 1975. Included are images of suburban development, disappearing farm land, drug use, urban blight, environmental damage, and older and disabled people. In some cases, multiple photographs are mounted on single panels.

Humphrey; including correspondence, memoranda, publicity, press releases, clippings, campaign literature, speeches by Humphrey, schedules, photographs, and lists of supporters. Correspondents include John F. Kennedy, Hubert H. Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, Gaylord Nelson, and state senator Lynn Stalbaum. One piece of campaign literature concerns a Milwaukee appearance by Jackie Robinson.

Abstract: Collection consists mainly of minutes, correspondence, memos, annual and research reports, newsclippings and press releases which document the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee's (HTFM) mission to prevent hunger and malnutrition by providing food to people in need and by promoting social policies to achieve the permanent end of hunger. The Task Force's work with local, state, and national groups, such as the Milwaukee Food Stamp Coalition and USDA/Americorps' Anti-Hunger Project, is documented within the records. Information on HTFM's coordination of the Emergency Food Pantry Network and the Hunger Action Network and its program developments, such as the Infant Nutrition Project and the School Breakfast Expansion Project are also in the records. Other materials include videos produced by HTFM, photographs of people and events, education and advocacy efforts, and various brochures and fact sheets.

Abstract: Papers of John R. Salter Jr., also known as Hunter Gray, a sociologist and professor active in civil rights and community organization groups starting in the 1960s, contains correspondence; speeches, reports, and other writings by Salter; files from some of his professional positions; his FBI files; newspaper clippings; and other documents. Salter's papers cover: civil rights of American Indians and African Americans; the boycott of white businesses in Jackson, Mississippi; his work for the Southern Conference Educational Fund in North Carolina (1963-1964), as director of the Chicago Commons Association (1969-1973), and as director of the Office of Human Development of the Catholic Diocese of Rochester, New York (1976-1978); the Halifax County Voters Movement and civil rights in North Carolina; and activities while teaching sociology at the Navajo Community College, Tsaile, Arizona, and at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. There are no papers specifically illustrating Salter's teaching career. Also includes photographs and an audio recording of Floyd Westerman, a Native American musician. The photographic portion of the collection includes images of Hunter Gray, as well as images related to his civil rights activities in the 1960s and 1980s such as housing conditions for African Americans in the south in the 1980s.

Abstract: Photographs preserved by Miriam Panganiban, concerning relatives of the Kennan Hutchins family in various Wisconsin cities, and concerning John Fosnot of Reedsburg and Madison, Wisconsin, who served during the Civil War in Company A, 19th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. Included are 19th Regiment reunion photographs and images of Fosnot at work; views of Hutchins family members picnicking, traveling by car, and posing on outings and by their homes; and landscape views. Most of the Hutchins family images are postcards and some contain written messages, primarily to Kennan or Herrick Hutchins and their wives, living at 310 Nicollet Avenue in Menasha, Wisconsin.
