The indexes contain names of grantors (sellers) and grantees (purchasers) noted in the real estate deeds. Indexes show date and time the deed was recorded, names of grantor and grantee, type of instrument, description of the property, and volume and page number of the deed record where the instrument is recorded. Call Number: uac84 Abstract: UW Extension's Bureau of Audio-Visual Instruction (BAVI), initially named the Bureau of Visual Instruction, circulated films, slides, and other audiovisual aids to teachers, county agents, and organizations across Wisconsin, beginning in 1915. Beginning in 1947 with "Better Schools for Rural Wisconsin," BAVI staff produced full scale films and television programs in collaboration with UW-Madison and UW Extension faculty and external organizations. This collection documents the production of numerous films by the Bureau of Audio Visual Instruction (BAVI) and community partners, BAVI's outreach efforts including the activities of film appreciation groups across the state, and the composition of BAVI's visual aid and later film library. Materials document how BAVI worked with numerous Wisconsin state agencies, the City of Milwaukee, the Anti-Defamation League, WHA-TV (now Wisconsin Public Television), and the United States Office of Information while also promoting University of Wisconsin faculty research in fields including agriculture, anthropology, political science, geography, languages, healthcare, music, social work, and psychology. Also included are records of its predecessors, the Joint Committee on Jewish Education and the Milwaukee Talmud Torah Association. The files are those of George Laikin, an officer of each organization. They contain articles of incorporation, by-laws, correspondence, minutes, and reports, documenting the reorganization of the Milwaukee Talmud Torah Association and the formation of the Joint Committee in 1940; the formation of the Bureau of Jewish Education in 1944; and the 1947 consolidations of its affiliated schools: the Beth Israel and United Hebrew Schools, the Milwaukee Talmud Torah, and the Yiddish Folk Shule. Also included is a comprehensive survey and evaluation of Jewish education in Milwaukee sponsored by the Milwaukee Jewish Welfare Fund in 1941. |

Photocopied clipping scrapbooks are the chief documentation of Hershey's reporting during World War I and II. The script materials primarily document his work for Vitaphone Studio. Also included are files on Hershey's proposed films, plays, books, and other writings, as well as his public relations work and correspondence related to his leadership of the Overseas Press Club. |

Richardson and operated under varying titles and partners--Abraham H. Palmer, Napoleon B. Van Slyke, Timothy Brown, Levi B. Vilas, and Leonard Farwell--until 1868 when it was taken over by George B. Burrows, who continued it until his death. The firm also acted as an investment, loan, and collection agency for other land companies and for individuals, including Charles Doty. The records document the firm's work with similar agencies in the state and its banking operations from the late 1850s to 1863, as well as its real estate transactions. |

Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Robert Dole, Patty Hearst, Eric Sevareid, and others; a transcript of CBS coverage of the assassination and funeral of John F. Kennedy; files on the 1980 presidential election, and other materials. General files contain publicity, distribution figures, press releases, memoranda between Benjamin and production staff, and seven and nine-year reports. Fisher, a University of Wisconsin sociology professor, who was a member of the Menominee Indian Study Committee (MISC). The collection includes a variety of material created by Fisher and used for reference purposes. Major sections of the papers are a file of legislation and related papers, consisting of federal and Wisconsin bills, drafts, reports of hearings, and other items; an extensive run of minutes and announcements of meetings of the Menominee Advisory and General Councils; and a large reference file of reports and papers regarding the economic, political, and social history and conditions of the Menominee Indians. Other papers include correspondence; scattered records of the Committee, Menominee Enterprises, Menominee Mills, and the Menominee Indian Agency; copies of the Menominee Indian Tribal Roll; and news clippings. Many of the papers have been annotated by Fisher. |

Quantity: 14.2 c.f. (40 archives boxes) Call Number: Mss 99 Abstract: Records of Busch-Sulzer Brothers, a St. Louis, Missouri manufacturing firm which produced diesel engines. Founded by beer magnate Adolphus Busch as the Diesel Motor Company of America, 1898-1901, then the American Diesel Engine Company, 1901-1911, this firm was the first to manufacture diesel engines in the United States under the patent of German scientist Dr. Rudolph Diesel. In 1911, the company merged with the Sulzer Brothers Diesel Engine Company, a Swiss manufacturer. The records include correspondence, reports, blueprints, drawings, and legal records documenting the early development of the diesel engine, improvement of the locomotive engine, submarine engine production during World War I, engine production during World War II, and general industrial manufacturing; financial records documenting assets and liabilities, production costs, and engine orders; and corporate records including minutes of Board of Directors and stockholder meetings. Also of interest is one folder relating to the company's relations with labor during the 1920s and data on employee wages and working conditions, advertising publications, and operating handbooks. |

The collection includes articles of incorporation, by-laws, histories, a constitution, membership records, correspondence, fragmentary committee and program records, financial materials, minutes, scrapbooks, annual directories, and photographs. Also included are similar records of the Coulee Region Business and Professional Women's Club; and scattered records of Coulee Region District 4 and its affiliate BPW clubs (Neillsville, Sparta, Tomah, and Vernon Area), the Wisconsin Federation, and the National Federation. Photographs include award and scholarship recipients, member participation in state and national conventions, officers, and group shots taken during the sixtieth anniversary. |

Founded in 1928, the BPW of Kenosha affiliated with the Wisconsin Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs (Southeastern District No, 9) and the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc., in 1931. The collection primarily documents club meetings and activities. Scrapbook material includes newspaper clippings; programs from Kenosha, neighboring group, and district meetings; and photographs. Photographs depict officers, members, and events such as the 1970 March of Dimes radio auction and a 1968 “Fashions in Nonsense” fashion show. There is a short home movie segment from an unidentified meeting, circa 1966. Summaries of members' vocations or job titles and places of employment can be found in scattered yearbooks, membership lists, and membership committee annual reports. A year-by-year history of the group to 1956 is included in the collection, as well as an abridged history which appears at the beginning of the 1952-53 yearbook. |

The group adopts yearly themes advancing the status of local women in economic, political, and social aspects. The collection consists of the constitution and by-laws, citations, committee materials including annual reports, financial records, executive board and monthly meeting minutes, a history, membership lists, loan and scholarship material for the Leora Westlake Memorial Loan Fund and Trees for Tomorrow, a complete run of the monthly newsletter Commentator, activity programs, yearbooks, and scrapbooks. Also included are scattered programs from the North Central Regional Conference conventions and donation records for the National Building Fund. |

Covering the years 1920-1998, the collection contains an almost complete run of the organization's newsletters, the Bulletin (1922-1948) and the Broadcaster (1948-1998), as well as executive committee minutes, committee reports and correspondence files; these files comprise the bulk of the collection. Also included, but to a lesser extent, are membership lists, handbooks, by-laws, annual report files and histories compiled for anniversary celebrations. The collection's photographs document the club's activities and members. Subject files also contain specific information regarding the organization's efforts to secure passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, influence state legislation, and its role in founding the Milwaukee Art Museum War Memorial Center. |

Publications, such as directories, manuals, handbooks, awards, convention programs, and local, state, and national newsletters, are also included. The records showcase the evolving professionalization of women in the workforce, and the way in which women's advocacy groups worked to increase the quality and quantity of professional opportunities for women. The collection also contains scattered documentation of local group histories, such as a scrapbook, correspondence, budgets, and newspaper clippings. |

(4 boxes) 11 oversize folders Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 102 Abstract: Records of the Business Improvement District (BID) which worked to promote and manage development by means of special tax assessments within the Historic Third Ward area of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The collection documents the BID's close relationship with the Historic Third Ward Association, which developed the overall planning and development of the area. The collection includes operating plans, which provide details on the goals and activities of the District, and minutes and background materials of the board of directors. The records of the parking structure contain extensive documentation of the design, planning, and construction of the parking and retail structure sponsored by the BID. The BID's Streetscape Project (sometimes called "Streetscaping") was an effort to improve the physical appearance of the district. The project began in April 1989 and was completed in 1992. The collection contains extensive documentation concerning the project, including correspondence with City of Milwaukee officials, especially the Department of Public Works, Renner Architects, and others about the streetscape plan and implementation. |
