(4 boxes) Call Number: Milwaukee Historic Photo Collection 16 Abstract: The Seaman Collection contains photographs of the volunteers of the 3rd and 4th Wisconsin Infantry Regiments, Colonel Horace Seaman, his father Galen Seaman, and Galen Seaman's Light Horse Infantry. The majority of the photographs are of the 3rd and 4th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment Volunteers prior to and during the regiments' service in the Spanish-American War in 1898.
Sears, Gradwell, 1896 or 1897-1956; United Artists Corporation	Title: Gradwell Sears Files: United Artists Corporation Records, Series 8B, 1941-1951 Quantity: 4.6 cubic feet (12 archives boxes) Call Number: U.S. Mss 99AN/8B Abstract: Files documenting Gradwell Sears' roles as vice president for domestic sales, for foreign distribution, and as president of United Artists. The file consists of Sears' incoming and outgoing correspondence, and of the various reports and summaries received by his office. Included is correspondence with producers dealing with both routine matters and disputes involving production, distribution, and sales; correspondence with foreign and domestic executives of United Artists; and correspondence with other corporate bodies such as producers' associations (e.g., the J. Arthur Rank companies) and distributors' associations (e.g., the Motion Picture Export Association). Particularly interesting are folders dealing with corporate ownership and control and the related and complex problems of distribution in Great Britain (including negotiations with the Rank and Odeon Cinema interests).
Seaton, George, 1911-1979	Title: George Seaton Papers, 1934-1975 Quantity: 11.6 c.f. (29 archives boxes) Call Number: U.S. Mss 75AN Abstract: Papers of an Academy Award winning screenwriter, director, and producer, reflecting his work in the film industry. Extensive production files for several of Seaton's films include scripts and drafts, correspondence, research material, budgets, cast and crew lists, call sheets, music, production reports, publicity, set designs, shooting schedules, and reviews. Films represented include Airport, The Bridges at Toko-Ri, The Counterfeit Traitor, The Country Girl (which won an Academy Award in 1954), A Day at the Races, Little Boy Lost, Miracle on 34th Street (winner of an Academy Award in 1947), A Night at the Opera, The Pleasure of His Company, Showdown, Song of Bernadette, 36 Hours, What's So Bad About Feeling Good?, and others. Of special interest are the research notes and correspondence for The Counterfeit Spy and 36 Hours which detail Seaton's attempt to accurately portray World War II espionage activities.

Sebring, a journalist and war correspondent for the New York Herald-Tribune, who reported on combat in the Southwest Pacific Area theater during World War II. Wartime papers, which comprise the most extensive and valuable portion of the collection, include letters to friends, relatives, and the staff of the Tribune. This section also includes photographs, 40 notebooks of on-the-spot observations, and copies of news articles. Other than the war years, the collection contains only scattered references to Sebring's professional career, though there are copies of some earlier writings for the Herald-Tribune and of his later columns in the Schenectady (N.Y.) Union-Star. Among Sebring's prominent correspondents are Martin Agronsky, Raymond Clapper, George Cornish, Joseph Driscoll, Frank Kelley, Joe Alex Morris, Drew Pearson, and Helen Rogers Reid. Also in the collection are three drafts of Sebring's unpublished book on Douglas MacArthur.

Records include personal materials, personal, professional, and religious writings, materials related to activism, photographs, scrapbooks, and ephemera.
Selvik, Martha	Title: Martha Selvik Papers, Quantity: 0.8 linear ft. (2 archives boxes and three oversized folders). Call Number: WVM Mss 10 Abstract: Papers of Martha Selvik, who was a captain in the Women's Army Corps (W.A.C.) both during and just after World War II, serving as a military historian and at the United States Mission to Norway in Bergen. The core of the collection is a 1946 report for the General Board, United States Forces, European Theater on the W.A.C. in the European Theater during World War II, which was co-written by Selvik. The report was entitled, “Study of the Women's Army Corps in the European Theater of Operations.” Included is a partial version of the report in draft form as well as the final report, which was originally classified restricted. Also included is some material from a historical officers' conference attended by Selvik that was held in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1946. Conference material includes a 1946 history of the 501st Air Service Group, intended as an example of military history. The collection also includes some personal material, including Norwegian Labor Party newspapers obtained by Selvik while stationed in Bergen; a Minneapolis Norwegian language newspaper; a tongue-in-cheek newsletter put out by Selvik's boarding house while stationed in the Washington, D.C. area; and some poetry in English and Norwegian.

(15 archives boxes) and 3 reels of microfilm (35 mm) Call Number: U.S. Mss BA; Micro 510 Abstract: Papers, 1934-1964, of Toni Sender, a United States labor activist who was the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions' delegate to the United Nations. Included is correspondence; diaries; and reports, memos, and speeches relating to her work as director of European labor research for the Office of Strategic Services, 1941-1944; senior economist for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, 1944-1946; and consultant to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, 1946-1956. The collection contains information on displaced persons, forced labor, economic affairs in Austria and Czechoslovakia particularly, and German labor personalities. Significant correspondents include Herbert Morrison, Herta Gotthelf, Paul Löbe, Fritz Heine, Wilhelm Sander, Julius Braunthal, and William Green. Also present are minutes of the International League for the Rights of Man, drafts of Sender's Autobiography of a German Rebel describing her experiences as a German citizen and Reichstag member before Hitler's rise, and other biographical material.

(7 boxes) Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 23 Abstract: Records of a volunteer organization which promoted the health and well-being of older adults and encouraged them to be politically and socially active. The collection includes committee meeting minutes, correspondence, news clippings, photographs, grant proposals, reports, film and videotape. Most of the records are those of its presidents, William Kesselman and Anne Sery. Especially well-documented are the identification cards program, tax reform meetings, and work with the Milwaukee County Commission on Aging.
Senior, Clarence Ollson, 1903-1974	Title: Clarence Senior Papers, 1924-1945 Quantity: 0.8 c.f. (2 archives boxes) Call Number: Mss 142 Abstract: Papers of Clarence Senior, a socialist, historian, and expert on Latin America. Although the bulk of Senior's papers relating to his years as executive secretary of the Socialist Party of America are at Duke University, this collection contains reports and memoranda of the national executive committee and solicitations for the Keep America Out of War Congress and the 1935 Continental Congress of Workers and Farmers. Other correspondence includes personal letters from fellow socialist Paul R. Porter and numerous references to activities in Mexico and Latin America. Prominent correspondents include Upton Sinclair and Norman Thomas.
Senn, Alfred, 1899-1978	Title: Alfred Senn Papers, 1921-1963 Quantity: 3.6 c.f. (9 archives boxes) Call Number: Mss 542 Abstract: Correspondence and manuscripts of Alfred Senn, an internationally renowned scholar whose chief contributions were in the fields of German, Baltic, and Slavic philology and linguistics. Born of Swiss parents and educated in Switzerland, he worked in Lithuania during the 1920s and then settled in the United States where he held academic positions at the University of Wisconsin (1931-1938) and the University of Pennsylvania (1938-1969) and later also played a prominent role in several professional organizations. The collection consists primarily of letters--roughly half of which are in German, Lithuanian, and other non-English languages--from friends and colleagues in both Europe and the United States concerning academic affairs, professional organizations, publishing, study and travel abroad, and personal activities. It also includes items dealing with Swiss-American cultural affairs, the problems of scholars victimized by the Nazi regime, and the situation of friends and displaced persons in post-World War II Germany. Prominent correspondents include Alfons Nehring and Max Niedermann.

The collection consists entirely of papers pertaining to his career in the Wisconsin Legislature. The bulk of the papers are arranged as an alphabetical subject file comprised of correspondence from constituents, colleagues, advocacy groups, and state and legislative agencies and materials on specific legislation and committee assignments. Also included are sampled constituent assists; personal correspondence; and newsletters, columns, questionnaire summaries, press releases, microfilmed biographical clippings, and other public relations materials. Especially well documented topics include Sensenbrenner's expertise in educational finance, the state budget and his membership on the Ethics and Judiciary committees.

(1 archives box and 1 record center carton) Call Number: M2005-043 Abstract: Papers of Sofia Sequenzia, including articles, pamphlets, brochures, newsletters, and correspondence documenting Sequenzia's role in the National Lawyer's Guild (NLG), Community Action on Latin America (CALA), and Central American Task Force (CATF). Sequenzia played a prominent role in organizing and participating in committees and conferences advocating for women's rights, pro-choice, anti-sterilization, and integration in Milwaukee (Wisconsin) school districts. She was also heavily involved in Central American causes such as the Nicaraguan Brigades, the attempts to secure the release of Uruguayan labor leader Raul Sendic, and the fight for democratic rights in Chile.

Included are correspondence, scripts, speeches and writings, reports, press releases and clippings. The collection contains files and recordings of produced and unproduced writings for television, motion pictures, radio and theater, such as The Twilight Zone (Television series. CBS : 1959-1964) and Planet of the Apes (1968). The subject files and correspondence include topics such as his practice of the writer's craft, marketing, production difficulties, teaching and public speaking, financial records and fan mail. The audio, dictated by Serling, includes screenplays, speeches and writings and correspondence. He often dictated several versions of the same story.
Serrie, Hendrick	Title: Hendrick Serrie papers Quantity: 0.37 cubic feet 1 letter document box DVD; digital file of solar cooker demonstration video (131 MB) Call Number: UA2019/029 Abstract: In 1961-1962, Hendrick Serrie, an Anthropology graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was tasked with carrying out a solar energy project in a Zapotec village in Oaxaca, Mexico. This collection contains reports on Serrie's work with the Wisconsin Solar Cooker, including field notes, photographs, and a copy of the Final Report of the Social Use of Solar Energy Field Project in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico 1961-62. Also included is a digital file of a video of Serrie demonstrating how the solar cooker functions; a DVD of documentary films with James Silverberg of the project, produced by BAVI at University of Wisconsin-Madison; and a copy of Farringtion Daniels' 1964 book, Direct Use of the Sun's Energy, which describes the project.

Service Employees International Union. Local 100 (New Orleans, La.)	Title: Service Employees International Union. Local 100 Records, 1968-1998 Quantity: 35.8 c.f., 10 photographs, and 14 negatives Call Number: M94-001; M2001-179; M2003-071; M2004-131 Abstract: Labor organizing files of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 100, with headquarters in New Orleans serving Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. SEIU Local 100 started out as the United Labor Organizations in 1980 and quickly became the United Labor Unions, an independent union formed by Hyatt hotel employees with the help of Wade Rathke, chief organizer. The United Labor Unions affiliated with the SEIU Local 100 in 1984. However, since 2009, the United Labor Unions Local 100 is independent again. The collection primarily documents the union's activities and organizing efforts over time, the union's affiliation with ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), other locals, and the Teamsters, Engineers, ACORN Movement (a collaboration between the Teamsters' union, the operating engineers union, and ACORN), the merger between Local 275 and Local 100, and the 1986 boycott of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans through administrative files, memoranda and reports, correspondence, publicity, contracts, and staff files.

Included are articles of incorporation, proceedings of annual state conventions, minutes of the Dane County branch (1919-1926), Xeroxed scrapbooks, a financial ledger, and miscellaneous photographs and ephemera.

(1 box) Call Number: UWM Manuscript Collection 58 Abstract: Records consist of the administrative files of the Seven Arts Society, which supported public interest in the arts. Includes minutes of the board of directors meetings and treasurer's reports, the society's annual art exhibition, minutes of annual meetings, annual reports of the various interest groups, and extensive minutes of the Painters' Group meetings. Files contain the society's monthly newsletter and the administrative materials and news clippings pertaining to the Piano Talenteens competition. There are membership rosters, officers' reports and scrapbooks of news clippings and administrative items. One folder contains materials on the Wisconsin Composers Program, a biennial event which featured the music of Wisconsin composers. Several pieces of member artwork are included in the records.

The farm records include general account books, cash books, and ledgers, plus separate volumes for butter sales (1903-1918), the hop yard (1863-1868), and hired help (1887-1893). Silas Seymour’s personal papers illustrate the life of a farmer, family man, and civic leader. The collection includes family correspondence, and the papers and a photograph of the Seymours’ daughter, Ella, who was disabled with Kyphosis. Also included are reports on Sauk County personages Archibald Barker, W.H. Canfield, and Levi Moore, written by Ruth Seymour Burmester in the 1970s-1980s.

Seymour while he was president of the Fox-Wisconsin Improvement Co., an organization engaged in promoting improvement of the water route from Green Bay to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Letters from New York investors, including John Rice and Erastus Corning, president of the New York Central Railroad, and from Wisconsin stockholders, including Otto Tank and M. L. Martin, give information on canal construction, grain marketing, and the rivalry between canals and railroads. The collection contains valuable data on eastern investment in Wisconsin internal improvements.

Documenting his work as director of the Division of Power at the Department of the Interior (1947-1950) are notes and papers on federal energy policies. As an independent consultant (1952-1958) and vice-president of Development and Resources Corporation (D&R, 1958-1973), Seymour's files include correspondence, memos and numerous project reports concerning negotiations with foreign governments, the United Nations, and the U.S. Agency for International Development; energy policies and development programs for regional and national governments and private companies; supervision of D&R field employees; and organization of projects. Prominent correspondents include Gordon Clapp, Julius Krug, and David Lillienthal.
