This collection largely documents Harriet H. Werley's long and distinguished nursing
career, though a few more personal items, including correspondence and family photos, are
also included in the collection. Papers document Werley's schooling; her work with mass
casualty/disaster nursing at the beginning of her army career; her days in Korea; teaching
and research interests at the institutions where she worked after receiving her Ph.D.,
including Wayne State, the University of Illinois, the University of Missouri-Columbia, and
UWM; her work to establish nursing minimum data sets; and the many awards she received for
her work.
