Series: 2. Chronological Files, 1922-1996
Scope and Content Note: This series contains materials arranged chronologically to coincide with Werley's life and career. Materials from her schooling, including her Ph.D. dissertation, are also found in this series. Some personal items are scattered throughout. Particularly well-documented are materials pertaining to the ANC Career Guidance and Planning Program; atomic and mass casualty, and disaster nursing from Werley's years with the Dept. of Atomic and Casualties Studies (DACS) at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR); her years with the 8th Army in Korea; her research interests in family planning and home care, but particularly her interests in computer applications in nursing and nursing minimum data sets. Awards and tributes are found in the boxes near the end of her life.

Scope and Content Note: Includes materials from Werley's early public school years; nursing school years, in Philadelphia, Berkeley, and at Columbia University; and materials from her years in the US Army Nurse Corps (ANC).

Scope and Content Note: Contains a few materials pertaining to Werley's master's degree work. Most materials pertain to the ANC and career guidance.

Scope and Content Note: Contains materials pertaining to the ANC and career guidance and planning; as well as materials pertaining to Werley's time with the Dept. of Atomic Casualties Studies (DACS) at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), including information on atomic and mass casualty, and disaster planning, and related civil defense materials.

Scope and Content Note: Contains pamphlets and publications pertaining to atomic weapons and biological warfare, civil defense, disaster nursing, and the management of mass casualties which Werley referred to in the mid-1950s.

1952-1963
Scope and Content Note: Contains pamphlets, readings, and other materials pertaining to emergency medical care, mass casualties in nuclear warfare, disaster nursing, and civil defense; Werley's DACS WRAIR work; Nevada test site operations; and the WRAIR Dept. of Nursing.

1959-1965
Scope and Content Note: Contains information, papers, and a report on the 1959 WRAIR Nursing Research Conference; a history of the US ANC; and the development of new military nursing courses. Also included are files pertaining to Werley's days as chief nurse of the 8th Army in Korea.

1963-1973
Scope and Content Note: Contains ANC history materials; course work and Ph.D. from Utah; materials from Werley's position as Director of the Center for Nursing Research, Wayne State University; and research proposals regarding family planning.

1971-1982
Scope and Content Note: Contains materials from Werley's positions at Wayne State and at the University of Illinois. Included are research materials relating to family planning and home care.

1975-1991
Scope and Content Note: Contains materials from Werley's tenure at the University of Illinois. Included are a number of research proposals; files pertaining to Werley's work to develop a nursing research journal, Research in Nursing and Health (RINAH); and materials relating to the 1977 Research Conference on Nursing Information Systems.

Scope and Content Note: Contains materials pertaining to RINAH; administrative files from the University of Illinois, including information about the first Nursing Research Forum; materials relating to Werley's position at the University of Missouri-Columbia; information about the establishment of the Annual Review of Nursing Research (ARNR); and materials which begin to document Werley's interest in the area of using computer applications in nursing.
