Abstract: Papers of Rubie Bond, a Beloit, Wisconsin, resident, chiefly pertaining to a number of local civil rights and black service organizations in which she was active: the Women's Community Club, the Mothers' Club, and the Beloit Council on Human Relations. Included are a constitution, by-laws, and minutes of the Women's Community Club, and minutes and other papers of the Mothers' Club. Scattered correspondence in the collection deals with her attempts to set up an interracial organization in Beloit in 1930, the organization in 1953 of the human rights council, and her 1959 nomination to the Governor's Commission on Human Rights (which she refused).

Abstract: Papers, mainly 1925-1955, of Rubin Levin, a labor journalist who was associated with the Milwaukee Leader and other Wisconsin newspapers during the 1930's and who was editor of Labor from 1953 to 1981. Included are biographical materials; personal correspondence exchanged with friends and family; a few papers of his wife Bertha Greenberg Levin, who worked as a free-lance publicist during the 1930's; and subject files concerning Labor, the Labor Press Association, and Milwaukee politics and government. The personal correspondence includes many letters to and from his wife written in 1938, the year of his first work in Washington, D.C., and her first pregnancy and a few letters concerning a brother associated with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin. Levin's writings include unpublished articles and stories; a literary journal kept during the 1920's when he traveled widely through the United States, Canada, and Europe; published free-lance articles; and a collection of his newspaper work which is available only on microfilm.

Abstract: Papers and recordings of Rudolph “Rudy” Topinka, a radio and television announcer, talk radio host, and newspaper columnist in the Wausau, Wisconsin area. The collection mostly includes audio recordings of many of his radio broadcasts, including interviews with the Green Bay Packers (1940). Also included are writings, clippings, photographs, and video recordings.

Abstract: Contains the documents of Rudy Small, the chairman of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and an integral figure in UWGB’s history. A majority of the collection is made up of Small’s personal correspondences, committee reports, and the site selection for a new university, which later became UWGB. The general correspondences cover October of 1964 to July of 1969. Other correspondences include some to the Governor’s Office from 1964 to 1967 and some to Ed Weidner, the first chancellor of UWGB, from 1966 to 1969. The documents regarding the site selection cover nearly every aspect of the legal battle to get UWGB where it is today. Included in these documents are site comparisons, the controversy of the Shorewood site and eventual home of UWGB, and the legal battle from Outagamie County after Shorewood was selected.

Abstract: Papers of a pharmacy college dean (University of Nebraska, 1908-1946, University of Arizona, 1947-1950), founder and editor of the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, and advocate of higher professional and educational standards in American pharmacy. The papers include speeches, articles, materials concerning organizations, mainly the American Conference of Pharmaceutical Facilities (later the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy), and correspondence with individuals, including his successor as editor Melvin R. Gibson, Zada M. Cooper, Robert P. Fischelis, Edward Kremers, Ernest Little, George Urdang, and two letters from William Jennings Bryan.

Abstract: Record book kept by Rufus Parks, the first land officer in Wisconsin Territory, who later was active in politics and served as superintendent of schools in Summit, Wisconsin. Included are records of land purchases and registrations (giving purchaser's name, section, and amount paid), accounts (including item prices), and copies of letters concerning the formation of school districts, common grain storage facilities, and difficulties with the federal government.

Abstract: Records, 1969-2000 (bulk 1975-1981), of Rural Resources, a nonprofit organization founded in 1975 that focused on rural advocacy, education, and community organizing in the Tri-State region of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. The records document the organization's activities, including conferences it held or participated in, tailgate markets, educational programs, and involvement with other organizations with similar farm, food, and land priorities, as well as support from faith-based organizations. Rural Resources also played an instrumental role in the creation of the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA).

Abstract: Business records of a small telephone company. Cashbooks and ledgers show operating and maintenance costs, the number of subscribers, their locations, and the rates or tolls paid by each. Occasional drafts of letters by Lewis F. Shoemaker, secretary-treasurer of the company, and a few fragmentary minutes of directors' and stockholders' meetings are scattered through the volumes.

Abstract: Interviews conducted by Jean Saul Rannells with twenty-seven rural Wisconsin senior citizen women primarily from Marquette and Lafayette counties about the everyday experiences of their lives. The audio recordings document the quality of life perceived by the interviewees from approximately 1915 to 1985 and focus on everyday activities, attitudes toward work and leisure time, religion, community involvement, informal education, and relationships.

Abstract: Record of lands sold for delinquent taxes showing certificate number, land description, location, date of sales, year for which tax was delinquent, certificate purchaser, and amount of delinquent tax. Also shown, when applicable, is the person or firm to which the land was deeded, or record of redemption with dates and costs for such actions. Volume 10 (1922-1924) also includes delinquent drainage tax sales. Volumes 12-14 (1927-1931) include delinquent property tax and drainage tax returns. Rusk County was formed in 1901 and until 1905 named Gates County. The volumes prior to 1901 are transcripts of sales from Chippewa County for lands which later became part of Rusk County.

Abstract: This collection includes publications and course materials by University of Wisconsin-Madison Sociology Professor Emeritus Russell Middleton and cassette tapes of oral history interviews with Wisconsin sociologists conducted by Odin Anderson from 1990-1995. Middleton's papers include issues of the Wisconsin Update newsletter from 1985-2017, transcripts of oral history interviews, and materials from his 1995 course Topics in Sociology: Genocide, Atrocities, and Human Rights.

Abstract: Papers of Russell Jones, a foreign correspondent best known for his reporting on the Hungarian Revolt of 1956 for which he won a Pulitzer Prize. The papers consist of biographical information, correspondence, and articles by and about Jones. The majority of the collection is composed of articles by Jones regarding the revolt in Hungary during which time he was the only Western reporter in Budapest. The photographs depict Jones as a youth and reporting on various foreign conflicts including World War II.

Abstract: Ruth Dunham Cortell (1902-1965) was a Wisconsin native who was a professional musician and educator. She worked as an organist at local theatres such as the Regent, Princess, Juneau, and Rainbow Theatres. As an educator she taught at, what is known now as, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). She was a past chapter president of the Wisconsin Education Association and a member of the National Education Association. She wrote numerous articles in national education publications about teaching and educational ideas.

Abstract: Papers of Ruth Goodman Goetz, a playwright and screenwriter, together with papers of two members of her theatrical family: her father, Philip Goodman (1885-1940), who was a producer of Broadway plays and musicals, and her husband and collaborator, Augustus Goetz (1889-1957). Also present are papers of agent Leah Salisbury pertaining to her management of Goetz's literary interests. Philip Goodman's papers include correspondence, contracts, agreements, financial records, and typescript copies of plays produced or written by Goodman. The work of Ruth Goodman and Augustus Goetz includes scripts, correspondence, and financial records for stage and screen plays such as Carrie (Paramount, 1952), The Immoralist (1954), The Hidden River (1957), and One Man Show (1945). The Heiress, for which the Goetzes adapted both the stage (1947) and screen (Paramount, 1949) versions, is partially documented, although scripts for neither are present. A large part of the correspondence is letters exchanged between Mrs. Goetz and her daughter over a thirty-year period. Also part of the collection is a typescript journal of a trip made to China in 1978; references to associations with Clifford Odets, S. J. Perelman, and David Selznick; and undated costume plates.

Abstract: This collection mainly documents Ruth Kriehn's time at the Mary Wigman School of Dance in Berlin from 1951 to 1952 and her friendship with and admiration for Mary Wigman, a world-famous modern dance pioneer. Included are Kriehn's typed memoirs, letters from Wigman to Kriehn, and photographs of Wigman. Articles and newspaper clippings about Wigman are also included in the collection. The collection also contains some information about other teachers at the Wigman School, including Margret Dietz. Of particular interest are the war stories from those at the school and the descriptions of life in Berlin after the war.

Abstract: Papers, 1986-1990, of Ruth Simpson, an organizer with Minnesota Citizens' Organizations Acting Together (COACT), documenting her activities related to activism around use of the genetically engineered recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) in dairy cattle to increase milk production. Minnesota COACT was formed in 1979 as a direct action, citizens' organization. Includes fact sheets, position papers, news clippings, editorial cartoons, letters to the editor, rBGH industry press releases and promotional literature, and industry research contracts, including some signed by Monsanto and American Cyanamid companies, with the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to conduct rBGH research.
