Abstract: One of a series of tape-recorded oral interviews conducted with Textile Workers Union of America leaders by James A. Cavanaugh of the Historical Society staff, documenting the origins, growth, and decline of the TWUA, internal disputes, relations with other unions, and organizing drives. The interviews document textile unionism prior to the formation of the TWUA, as well as discussing major strikes and gains made through collective bargaining. Specific references are made to organizing activities in Illinois, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The Norris Tibbets interview is part of the Textile Workers Union of America Oral History Project.
Tichenor, Vernon, 1815-1892 Title: Vernon Tichenor Papers, 1839-1894 (bulk 1862-1880)

Abstract: Papers of Vernon Tichenor, the first lawyer in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, as well as the County's Draft Commissioner. The collection contains letters to his wife Charlotte, Civil War records, and other personal and professional papers. The Civil War records include bounty and pension records from veterans or their families, most from Wisconsin Units, but also other state units as well as a couple serving in the 67th United States Colored Infantry. Bounty and pension records also exist from the War of 1812 and one from the Second Seminole War. The letters to Tichenor's wife describe the journey to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, via the Great Lakes with descriptions of people he encountered, including Native Americans. Also includes a lecture on reform (1842), a Free Democratic Party Convention speech (1852), and a reminiscence about the 1864 capture of Mobile, Alabama, written by his son, Captain Willis V. Tichenor (1893).

Abstract: Photographs made by M.D. Tieman in Stribling Springs, Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and New York City, circa 1898-1901. The Stribling Springs images include a lodge, people camping, cabins, the landscape, and African-American musicians. The Washington images, made in 1901, include the Capitol building, the Library of Congress, a military parade, and parade spectators. The New York images document the 1899 celebrations surrounding ceremonies for Admiral George Dewey, including crowds and decorated buildings.

Abstract: Records of Tillman Brothers, a furniture and undertaking establishment founded in 1859 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, by Friedrich and Wilhelm Tillman, and operated by three generations of their descendants. Included are ledgers, cash books, day books, and an account book for 1861-1872; a stock inventory, 1868; price lists from 1872 to 1899; and the original and translations of a diary kept by Friedrich Tillman when he sailed to America from Germany in 1856.

Abstract: Papers of Walter Tillow, a civil rights and anti-war activist. The collection primarily consists of correspondence with union officials and other activists written as a member of the Atlanta office of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and later as a member of the Pittsburgh Committee to End the War in Vietnam. Also included are memoranda, minutes, news releases, position papers, policy statements, broadsides, circular letters, agenda, mailing lists, and clippings.

Abstract: Come Out and Sing Together was the first national gay choral festival in the United States. It was held at Lincoln Center in New York on September 8-10, 1983 and featured gay choruses from all across the country, including the Madison Gay Men's Chorale. Business papers cover his investments in the Standard Lime and Stone Company, mining property in Wyoming and Ontario, and real estate in Milwaukee, Chicago, and the northern lakes region of Wisconsin. Also covered in the collection are Titus' interests in political issues, Indian artifacts from Mexico and the southwestern United States, and work as a historian with the State Historical Society of Wisconsin.
