Singer Manufacturing Company Records, 1850-circa 1975

Scope and Content Note

The processed portion of the collection, which is primarily comprised of documentation dating from the nineteenth century, consists of paper records received from the Singer Company from 1961 to 1990. In 1990-1992 the deteriorated letterbooks and bound financial records included among these records were microfilmed with funds from the National Endowment of the Humanities, and the original records were destroyed. No unbound records were filmed as part of this project.

The processed portion of the collection consists of seven series: BACKGROUND AND HISTORICAL MATERIAL, OUTGOING CORRESPONDENCE, INCOMING CORRESPONDENCE, ADVERTISING AND PUBLICATIONS, SUBJECT FILES, LEGAL RECORDS, and FINANCIAL RECORDS.
