Scope and Content Note: Additions, 1941-1979, consisting of diaries written by Gordon Barland describing his daily schedules, financial situation, weather, family and friends, and brief comments on contemporary political events. Later diaries focus on his academic work in Experimental Psychology and research on polygraph examinations and their effectiveness on criminal suspects. Also included is a travel journal written by Betsy Barland describing a family trip to Europe in 1950, the first year that American tourists were allowed, which includes numerous photographs. Finally, there are reminiscences by several family members describing their experiences in Hawaii during and after the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941.
