Biography/History

Leo Jackson was born in Neillsville, Wisconsin on December 18, 1889. He became a private in Co. A of the 3rd Wisconsin National Guard Regiment in 1907 and later attended Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. During the First World War he was a captain attached to the headquarters of the 119th Machine Gun Battalion, which was part of the 32nd Infantry Division (made up of Wisconsin and Michigan National Guard members). After the war, in addition to his duties as a Colonel of the 128th Infantry of the Wisconsin National Guard, he was a retail businessman in Neillsville. In 1935 he began work for the Wisconsin Adjutant General where he was an administrator and inspector. During World War II he was a procurement officer for the state selective service organization and after the war he did a tour of duty in Japan and Korea. In 1948 he was appointed adjutant of the King Grand Army Home and also served for a time as the acting commandant. Later Jackson was the business manager of the Grand Army Home until his retirement in 1961. He died in 1970.
