Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers Records, 1943-1959

Biography/History

The Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers was created as a result of a meeting held in Milwaukee on April 22, 1943 to which all of the registered engineers of Wisconsin were invited. Prior to this time, the Engineering Society of Wisconsin had served as the representative body for the state's registered engineers. At the Milwaukee meeting, a committee was appointed which, during the summer of 1914, drew up a constitution for the proposed WSPE This constitution was adopted and went into effect on January 1, 1944. The objectives of the WSPE, as set forth in its constitution, were the “...advancement of the public welfare and the professional, social, and economic interests of the Professional Engineer by promotion of education, legislation, and public relations through the establishment of high ethical standards and practices.”
