WCBS/WCBS-TV (New York, N.Y.) Records, 1965-1978

Biography/History

WCBS/WCBS-TV are the “flagship” stations of the Columbia Broadcasting System in New York City. WCBS dates to the purchase of WAHG in January 1939 from Alfred H. Grebe as the first, full-time station of the CBS network. Originally known as WABC, the name was changed to WCBS after the rebirth of NBC's Blue Network as the similarly-named ABC network. Television broadcasting began at the station in 1941.
