MTM Enterprises Records, 1970-1989

Scope and Content Note

MTM Enterprises was organized in 1970 by Grant Tinker, a television executive and director, and actress Mary Tyler Moore, who starred in the company's first show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show. That series was typical of MTM's realistic and literate situation comedy and dramatic shows, many of which have won Emmy awards.

The collection consists of scripts for the following MTM series: The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bay City Blues, The Betty White Show, The Bob Crane Show, The Bob Newhart Show, Doc, The Duck Factory, Friends and Lovers, Hill Street Blues, The Last Resort, Lou Grant, Mary, The “Mary” Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Comedy Hour, Newhart, Paris, Phyllis, Remington Steele, Rhoda, St. Elsewhere, The Texas Wheelers, Three for the Road, The Tony Randall Show, We've Got Each Other, The White Shadow, and WKRP in Cincinnati.

The collection also includes a tape recording of the theme music of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Among the films and videotapes are numerous episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, Lou Grant, and Rhoda, and pilot episodes of numerous series. Specials on videotape include The Boy Who Drank Too Much, The Critical List, The Mary Tyler Moore Hour, Nowhere to Run, Something for Joey, and Vampire.

The materials described below are in two series: Scripts, and Films and Videotapes. Within the Scripts, there are subseries for Television Series, Pilots, and Specials.
