Biography/History

Joseph Stein graduated from City College of New York, and for a time was in social work. He has been a writer for a number of television and radio shows, chiefly comedy, including Your Show of Shows, All Star Revue with Tallulah Bankhead, and the Hildegrade programs. Late in the forties William Glickman joined the Hildegrade writing staff, and he and Stein began other collaborations as well: sketches for Lend an Ear,Ziegfeld Follies,Alive and Kicking, and Inside USA; and books for Body Beautiful,Mr. Wonderful, and Plain and Fancy, and for a revue, Happily Ever After. Stein has collaborated with Robert Russell on the book for Take Me Along, and written the book for Juno and some straight plays, including Enter Laughing. He had some hand in the writing of Jamaica and No Time for Sergeants and collected royalties on both, although he is not listed as an author of either.
