Scope and Content Note: Records, 1947-1981, including correspondence with the Division of Health, much of which concerns purported heart problems due to fluoridation, especially claims made by a nurse in Antigo, Wisconsin that fluoridation caused a series of heart-related deaths. There are also reports and newspaper and journal articles on fluoridation. Of note are surveys taken of the dental health of school children in various cities and counties in Wisconsin, to determine the effects of fluoridation in those communities. Also included are three 16 mm films on fluoridation; a videocassette recording of a forum on community fluoridation from 1978; a 12-inch record of a “Community Controversy” hearing issued by the New York State Department of Health; slides of water towers, well pumps and pumping stations; and a 1961 poster issued by the Keep America Committee decrying fluoridated water, the polio vaccine, and mental hygiene.
