: Grant files concerning four energy programs managed by the division, 1978-1996. Typical projects included solar-powered and highly-insulated residential construction, ethanol and landfill gas, wind power feasibility studies, and efficient use of wood industry products and by-products. The files include some funded and unfunded applications, although it is not known if the accession contains all applications received. The Energy Development and Demonstration Program began in 1980 in order to encourage the development of alternative energy sources and energy conservation. These files, which are arranged alphabetically by keyword may contain correspondence, reports, publicity, and photographs. The Renewable Energy Assistance Program (REAP) which funded both technical and construction assistance projects, is quite similar both in purpose and in documentation except that some funding came from the Oil Overcharge Fund. The Wood Waste Energy Incentive Program, which primarily dates from 1989, provided funds mainly to Wisconsin lumber companies, pallet manufacturers, and manufacturers of other wood products for efficiency use of its by-products. Some project reports contain photographs or slides. While most are of a technical nature, those documenting the Macrothermal house in Glendale are of general interest.
