: Files, 1981-1998, on statewide multi-modal planning projects carried out by various
division personnel, especially George Gunderson, director of the Bureau of System
Planning, and Charles Thiede, supervisor of the Highway Planning unit. Included are the
files of the Access Control Task Force, which was carried out to fulfill the
department's earlier failure to adopt a previous statewide access management plan; an
inventory of significant Wisconsin highways to support development of the National
Highway System included in the federal Surface Transportation Act of 1991; participation
in the “Avenue of the Saints” project, a cooperative plan for the
development of the St. Louis-St. Paul corridor; data and background information about
traffic, mobility, and costs gathered for the Corridor 2020 major highway planning
concept; and an update made to the State Highway Plan during the 1990s. Additional files
concern a 1993 survey of intercity bus passengers, the department's harbor assistance
program during the early 1980s, and Metro 2020, a project to incorporate urban
developments within the Corridors concept.
