Gallup Family Papers, 1862-1956

Scope and Content Note

The Gallup Family papers are arranged in six categories: papers of Glenn D. Gallup, Frances Gallup, Charles Gallup, Glenn D. Gallup, Jr., and Marjorie Gallup, and family correspondence and papers.

GLENN D. GALLUP'S papers, 1902-1929, consist primarily of income tax returns, 1926-1928, a few business papers for the same period, and a medical case record book, circa 1910-1920, portions of which were used as a scrapbook. FRANCES GALLUP'S papers, 1901-1961, include a few documents concerning her personal life, but most relate to her teaching. Among them are lesson plans, course notes, and curriculum materials.

The single folder of CHARLES GALLUP papers, 1924-1926, 1945-1946, includes a brief biographical note and some school materials. Materials from GLENN D. GALLUP, JR., 1913-1937, relate entirely to his student days, particularly at law school, and include essays, course notes, and exercise papers. The MARJORIE GALLUP papers, 1923-1936, also relate entirely to her school years.

The FAMILY CORRESPONDENCE AND PAPERS, 1862-1956, consists largely of correspondence between Frances Gallup and her sisters, Mrs. Mercedes Rider and Mrs. Grace L. Ehle and with her husband's sister, Mae Gorham. There also is correspondence between Frances and her three children and with her mother before her mother lived with her. Many of the postcards include personal correspondence. Also among the family papers are genealogies of the Peabody family extending to the 18th century and photographs of the Gallups and of related family members.
