Racine Trades and Labor Council Records, 1902-1952

Biography/History

The Racine Trades and Labor Council was organized on September 27, 1894, as an umbrella organization for local American Federation of Labor unions in Racine. The council, which was comprised of delegates from member unions, held bi-weekly meetings and was concerned with greater recognition of unions and union products. At bi-weekly meetings the council heard speakers on topics related to collective bargaining. Delegates of striking unions reported on their strikes. The Council published a bi-weekly newspaper, the Labor Advocate, from September 1916 to July 1927.
