Racine Chamber of Commerce Records, 1912-1975

Scope and Content Note

The collection documents the organization and activities of the Racine Chamber of Commerce. It contains minutes, correspondence, and reference materials of the board of directors, various committees and other groups, and is divided into three series.

Microfilmed MINUTES, 1912-1969, not only record the meetings of the board of directors and some special committees, but also include annual budgets.

COMMITTEE FILES, 1930-1971, contain minutes, correspondence and reference materials of the committees, arranged alphabetically. Most of the records date from 1962 and are divided primarily among seven committees: Agriculture, Education, International Advisory, Local Affairs, State Legislative, Traffic, and University of Wisconsin-3rd Campus. The International Advisory Committee was organized to promote international trade from Racine, while the State Legislative Committee oversaw government bills affecting business, and advised Wisconsin legislators of Chamber of Commerce positions on proposed legislation. The Traffic Committee was concerned with reasonable transportation and carrier rates for the area, and the University of Wisconsin-3rd Campus Committee was organized to promote the location of a university campus in Racine.

ACTIVITIES FILES, 1963-1971, contains correspondence and reference materials from Chamber of Commerce sponsored clinics, conferences, and other interests not directed by any specific committee.
