Racine Chamber of Commerce Records, 1912-1975

Biography/History

The Racine Chamber of Commerce was formed on October 28, 1912 as the Racine Commercial Club; from November 1921 until January 1952 the organization was known as the Association of Commerce. Since its inception the Chamber has actively promoted Racine business interests, encouraged industrial development, spoken out on legislation affecting Racine business, and organized special events. The organization has also helped develop international trade from Racine and has attempted to attract various institutions and groups favorable to the area's economy (e.g. State Fair site, University of Wisconsin campus, and the International Speedway). The Chamber of Commerce has maintained nearly twenty committees to carry out its functions.
