Calvin C. Bayley Papers, 1830-1904

Scope and Content Note

The Calvin C. Bayley Papers include Mr. Bayley's incoming correspondence, 1830-1904, relating mainly to his profession as an educator. The correspondence for the 1830's and 1840's is particularly rich in information concerning both Amherst College and Manlius Academy. One folder of Huldah Bayley Leavens correspondence, 1843-1848, to her brother Calvin C. Bayley, has been left separate since the letters make reference to the Spring Farm Association, a Wisconsin Fourierite community near Sheboygan Falls in the late 1840's.

The collection also includes some genealogical material and photographs relating to the Bayley family, as well as miscellaneous unsorted business papers and miscellaneous writings by Calvin C. Bayley, including his reminiscences of the Republican Party convention in Pittsburgh in 1856. This was printed in the Wisconsin Magazine of History, volume 38, 1954-1955.
