: A scrapbook of miscellaneous clippings selected from newspapers in the 1825-1852 period. The articles illustrate Shane's wide range of interest in archaeology, geology and mineral resources, religion, poetry, education, travel, and United States and Indian history. One of numerous articles on Mammoth Cave includes a woodcut depicting the cave entrance, and an Ohio railway article contains a scene in the Big Miami valley. Biographical-articles pertaining to Charles S. Todd and Nathan Maynard are also found. Shane's table of contents is found at the end of this large volume.
