Hilmar Luckhardt (1913-1984) was born in Chicago, and graduated from the University of
Chicago in 1935. He taught music composition and theory at the University of Wisconsin -
Madison from 1939 to 1979. Luckhardt composed over 50 works in a variety of forms, including
original scores for educational and documentary films. Many of these works were performed by
university groups such as the Wingra Woodwind Quintet, the Pro Arte String Quartet, the UW
Brass Quintet, and the UW Bands.
