The Wisconsin State College, Milwaukee established a Curriculum Committee around 1950. The
committee was renamed the Course and Curriculum Committee in 1964 and the Academic Program
and Curriculum Committee in October 1970. The committee consisted of at least ten faculty
members representing the various schools and colleges within the university, one student (as
of 1966), and one member of the Dean's Council (as of 1971 at the latest). A new chairperson
was selected approximately every two years by the committee and the group was accountable to
the UWM faculty as a whole. Much of the work was dispersed among a variety of subcommittees
which formed depending on the needs of the university.
