John Marr (1831-1921) was born in Prussia. He moved to the United States in 1852 and
worked as a pioneer engraver in Milwaukee for the firm of Marr and Richards. John
Marr was also president of the Liedertafel (singing) Society and a member of the
Milwaukee Turnverein. Bertha Marr, née Bodenstein, (1836-1911) was born in Germany.
She came to the United States in 1854. Bertha and John married in 1855. The couple
had four children, one of whom was the artist Carl Marr. They were the
parents-in-law of businessman Bruno Fink and also members of the Bielfeld Bowling
Club. Burial is at Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wis.
