Richard McLeod was born 5 August 1936 in Seattle, Washington. He served in the U.S.
Navy as an electronics technician from 1954-1957. McLeod then entered the University
of Wisconsin, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1961. He later received a
Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1965 and his doctorate
from the University of Missouri in 1971. Starting in 1969, McLeod was a history
professor at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania until his retirement in 1996.
He wrote on the subject of labor history, artisans, and railroads. He died 22
November 2000.
