Faville Family Photograph and Film Collection, circa 1900-1950

Scope and Content Note

Theodore's turn-of-the-century photography consists of glass plate negatives that document the Henry Faville family and home at 919 Main Street in La Crosse, the Janesville home (165 High Street) of the Samuel Conants family (the parents of Mrs. Faville), and the homes of other family and friends. These are high quality views of domestic life and interior decoration. Later photographs by Theodore consist primarily of views of Beloit College, and of Egyptian antiquities that he visited. Theodore's ministerial career is documented by still photographs and film of Wisconsin Congregational Conference summer church camps, 1929-1941, Bible Institutes at Green Lake, and Young People's Conferences at Northland College. (Some reels may have been filmed by Alfred Swan and Edgar Gordon.)

Additional film depicts Wisconsin home mission churches and conferences at Eagle River, Ladysmith, Prentice, Polar, Phelps, Three Lakes, Viola, and other communities, the construction of the First Congregational Church in Madison, the University of Wisconsin campus and students, Vilas Park Zoo, and a family vacation to Wisconsin Dells.

Later photographs taken by Henry Esch Faville document Madison, in particular Monroe Street where his business was located, and Vilas Park where the family enjoyed boating. Many additional images are unidentified.
