Home movies and photographs about the domestic life and careers of several generations of the Faville family of La Crosse and Madison, Wisconsin. Documented members of the family include Henry Faville (1847-1926), a Congregational minister; his son Theodore Rush Faville (1881-1955), also a minister and the superintendent of the Wisconsin Congregational Conference; and Theodore's son, Henry Esch Faville, a commercial photographer in Madison. The majority of the photographs were taken by Theodore, a talented amateur, and by Henry Esch Faville, although some photographs may have been taken by Charles R. Wicks, field superintendent for the Conference, and by friends. English

Scope and Content Note
Theodore's turn-of-the-century photography consists of glass plate negatives that document the Henry Faville family and home at 919 Main Street in La Crosse, the Janesville home (165 High Street) of the Samuel Conants family (the parents of Mrs. Faville), and the homes of other family and friends. These are high quality views of domestic life and interior decoration. Later photographs by Theodore consist primarily of views of Beloit College, and of Egyptian antiquities that he visited.
Theodore's ministerial career is documented by still photographs and film of Wisconsin Congregational Conference summer church camps, 1929-1941, Bible Institutes at Green Lake, and Young People's Conferences at Northland College. (Some reels may have been filmed by Alfred Swan and Edgar Gordon.)
Additional film depicts Wisconsin home mission churches and conferences at Eagle River, Ladysmith, Prentice, Polar, Phelps, Three Lakes, Viola, and other communities, the construction of the First Congregational Church in Madison, the University of Wisconsin campus and students, Vilas Park Zoo, and a family vacation to Wisconsin Dells.
Later photographs taken by Henry Esch Faville document Madison, in particular Monroe Street where his business was located, and Vilas Park where the family enjoyed boating. Many additional images are unidentified.
Related Material
Both Henry Faville and Theodore Faville have separately cataloged manuscript collections at the Wisconsin Historical Society. In addition, Theodore's career is documented in the records held by the Society of the Wisconsin Congregational Conference and United Church of Christ, Wisconsin Conference.
