South Side Business Men's Club (Milwaukee, Wis.) Records, 1937-1980

Biography/History

The South Side Business Men's Club of Milwaukee was organized by businessmen of Polish ancestry in 1936 “to protect, promote, and stimulate a better feeling in civic life of members and the community,” to promote the business ventures of all members, and to work for legislation beneficial to members and the community. Although the membership was of Polish ancestry, the Club's monthly meetings were conducted in English. The Club participated in various community service and fund-raising projects in conjunction with other Milwaukee charities and service organizations; among these in particular were street and highway improvements on the South Side of Milwaukee, and the annual Don Bosco High School Athletic Banquet, sponsored by the Club.
