Scope and Content Note

Kasten's Congressional papers include bill files, correspondence, reference files, committee memoranda, news clippings from his service on the House Select Committee on Intelligence, voting record analyses, and a legislative profile of Kasten.

Papers documenting Kasten's Senate career are more extensive and are organized into six series: Press Office Records (press releases, photographs, and speeches); Videotapes (interviews, press conferences, public service announcements and campaign ads); Constituent Correspondence (incoming and outgoing mail, including “robo” letters, and mainly on microfilm) and “Dirty Dozen Reports” (staff analyses of incoming correspondence by topic); Legal Counsel's Files (research files mainly on product liability); Policy Director's Files (project books, primarily concerning environmental issues, consisting of policy statements, memoranda, speeches, significant letters, and Kasten's voting record on specific issues); and Small Business Committee Records (briefing books, statements, memoranda, policy statements, correspondence with Wisconsin small business owners and interest groups, newsletters, press releases, and clippings).
