These materials were collected by Elsbeth M. Seewald, who was president of the
German-American National Congress (Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress or
DANK) from 1981 to 1991. Under her presidency, DANK was instrumental in the
creation of an official German-American day at the national level. She was also
involved in the German-American public community before and after her tenure as DANK
president, at local, state, and national levels.
