Biography/History

These materials were collected by Elsbeth M. Seewald, who was president of the German-American National Congress (Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress or DANK) from 1981 to 1991. Under her presidency, DANK was instrumental in the creation of an official German-American day at the national level. She was also involved in the German-American public community before and after her tenure as DANK president, at local, state, and national levels.

Scope and Content Note

Photographs, correspondence, plaques and awards, newspaper clippings, and video tapes regarding Elsbeth Seewald and her work with the German American National Congress (DANK). Includes photographs of Ms. Seewald at White House functions, White House Christmas cards, and presidential proclamations.
