Abstract:
Records of the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women, created in 1964 to investigate the condition of women in Wisconsin in order to effect changes to enable women to fully participate in contemporary society. Included are fragmentary administrative records and files on the CETA and Wisconsin Women Research Project, a project which compared services received by men and women in the CETA employment program. Newsletters and publications of the commission are available in the State Historical Society of Wisconsin library. The administrative records consist of minutes, correspondence, committee and financial records, and materials documenting the commission's outreach activities. Records of the CETA and Wisconsin Women Research Project, one of the commission's activities during the period 1977 to 1979, include background material on research objectives, notes on interviews with Prime Sponsors and CETA program operators, quarterly reports, and results of a telephone survey used to supplement information about CETA participants. In addition to the textual records, there are seven numeric machine-readable data files containing information on CETA participants in Wisconsin during fiscal year 1977. Information is available on conventional Title 1, On-the-Job Training (OJT), and Public Service Employment (PSE) programs, as well as special employment programs directed at eligible women.
