Legislature Quantity: 141.1 cubic feet (304 archives boxes, 22 records center cartons, and 1 oversize folder) Call Number: Series 180 Abstract: Citizen petitions, remonstrances, and memorials submitted to the Senate and Assembly legislatures of the Wisconsin Territory and later the State of Wisconsin. Citizen petitions provide evidence about the role citizens played in shaping Wisconsin’s government, infrastructure, and public institutions. Early petitions focus on the use of land and water; the establishment of schools and institutions; and social issues like divorce, temperance, slavery, and treatment of Native Americans. Records for 1939-2007 consist of petition jackets that summarize the petition and indicate the number of signatures. For each petition, one sample is included. collection documents activities of this regional archival association, particularly issues
of concern, such as the appointment of the Archivist of the United States, developments in
the field of archives, and the organization's bi-annual meetings. Publications include
complete sets of MAC newsletters (1973-present) and journal, the Midwestern Archivist (1976-1991) and Archival
