Abstract: The collection consists primarily of raw and historical footage used in the production of Wisconsin Hometown Stories for the Janesville, La Crosse, and Manitowoc-Two Rivers programs; and for the program Portage Memories produced by Wisconsin Public Television and the Wisconsin Historical Society. Also included are the finished programs (on DVD) for the Green Bay and the Manitowoc-Two Rivers programs, and The History Keepers; interview transcripts for the La Crosse program (on compact disc); and transcripts and a tape log for the Janesville program (on compact disc). Most of the La Crosse production footage is available on HD-CAM and VHS tape. The paper portion of the collection contains teacher resources for the Janesville and Green Bay programs, and transcripts for the La Crosse program.

Abstract: Record books created by land inspectors who examined timber stands to estimate the quality, type, and volume of lumber a forest area would yield. In addition, cruisers noted topographical features, the general landscape, and details about the forest. Maps show the boundaries of the lots and topographical features. The records cover townships located in present day Oneida and Vilas counties, Wisconsin.

Abstract: Applications for renewal of approval which had been superseded. This series was discontinued in 1986, and the materials which would have been inserted into this series were incorporated into the series covered by RDA 292A/0006 (School files -- approved). All for-profit vocational, occupational, and technical schools (except schools of cosmetology) located in Wisconsin or elsewhere, which offer vocational courses to Wisconsin residents and representatives of those schools who solicit enrollments within Wisconsin are required to be approved by the Educational Approval Board. As a condition for continued approval, schools are required to submit annual applications for renewal of school approval (form EAB 1.07 or its equivalent).

Abstract: Brief papers of Emerson, a New York banker and philanthropist, primarily documenting his public relations activities in support of Theodore Roosevelt's Non-Partisan League Presidential campaign in 1916 and his work as secretary of the Emergency Employment Relief Committee of New York City in 1930-1931, and other civic interests. Included are correspondence with Theodore Roosevelt and others, clippings, press releases, and literature. Also included is a transcript of congressional testimony concerning his fundraising in behalf of Calvin Coolidge in 1924. In addition there are publicity materials about the 1922 convention of the American Bankers Association; the Association of Reserve City Bankers of which he was president, 1930-1931; the World War I Liberty Loan campaign of which he was the secretary; and the American Red Cross, 1948-1950. A small amount of material touches on Emerson's activities as a trustee of the Kress Foundation. His interest in conservation is documented by an account of a 1936 birding expedition in California with Roger Tory Peterson. A small number of photographs relate to the Roosevelt Non-Partisan League. Additional photographs bound with the papers document the Emergency Unemployment Committee.

Abstract: Records of the Milwaukee chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), mainly relating to the activities of secretary Richard McLeod in the education committee's campaign to end de facto segregation in the city school system. McLeod's papers include correspondence, curricula and teaching materials used in the 1964 Freedom Day program, reports, placards, petitions, and research material on similar campaigns in other cities. The remainder of the collection consists of a constitution and by-laws, programs, minutes, the education committee's report to the 1964 national convention, and material relating to civil rights activities in Mississippi.

Title: Walter Zukowski Papers, 1976-1981

Abstract: Memoirs written by Zukowski in 1981 of his boyhood in Poland, his family, emigration to the United States in 1905, and life in Milwaukee until 1917. A second memoir written in 1976 recounts Zukowski's military experiences during World War I, based on a diary kept while serving with an ammunition supply unit of the 32nd “Red Arrow” Division. The memoirs include newsclippings, a photograph of Milwaukee officers of Company B, 5th Wisconsin Infantry, and a list of those officers and enlisted men. In addition, there is a small file of correspondence and clippings relating to World War I veterans, “Polish jokes,” and other concerns of the Polish American community.
