Abstract: Papers of a Madison, Wis., attorney and state senator, consisting of legislative and political papers, legal case and reference files, a subject file, and personal and miscellaneous papers. Also included are a small number of the political, professional, and personal papers of Risser's father-in-law, Ernest N. Warner (1868-1930), who was also a Madison attorney and state assemblyman. Included in the collection are Risser's constituent correspondence files, 1936-1949; notes for and copies of legislation introduced by Risser or considered by committees of which he was a member; correspondence concerning cases Risser handled as Dane County district attorney; and legal papers created while attorney for the Town of Madison. Items in the subject file show the involvement of both Risser and Warner in the Progressive movement in Wisconsin, in the development of parks in Madison and Wisconsin, and their interest in American and Wisconsin history including membership in the Lincoln Fellowship of Wisconsin and the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. Correspondents include Risser's law partner John Shiels, and the materials make reference to Wisconsin Progressive Robert M. La Follette.

Abstract: Papers and photographs of George J. Carr, a private who served in Battery B of the 4th Battalion, 42nd Artillery and was killed in action during the Vietnam War. Collection consists largely of the letters that Carr wrote home to his family during his time in Vietnam leading up to his death. Transcriptions of the letters by his mother Lillian accompany the originals. Also included are poems written by Carr during his military service. Many of the poems reflect his Catholic faith and all reveal a young man overwhelmed by the chaotic surroundings he found in Vietnam. Condolence letters from Army personnel describing the circumstances of his death, forms regarding the disposition of his personal belongings, and a funeral register document Carr's death and funeral. Photographs include shots of Carr from childhood through his military service.

These concern his early business interests, arrangements for his care, controversies between the McCormick's and his wife Katharine, whom he married in 1904, and reports of medical consultants.

Included is biographical material; correspondence; typewritten copies of his speeches; legal documents relating to his career; a subject file including notes, drafts, correspondence, and reviews of his books, The Child Speaks; the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency and Socialism in America; papers on the custody case of Michael and Robert Meeropol, the children of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg; files on his use of bibliotherapy with juvenile delinquents; and microfilmed clippings both by and about Panken.

Abstract: Papers, 1932-1999 (bulk 1937-1987), of journalist and teacher James Aronson, who was best known (with James T. McManus and Cedric Belfrage) as a founder of the National Guardian, an independent left-wing news weekly. There are files about the newspaper, but the majority of the collection consists of correspondence, speeches and writings, and teaching materials dating from his post-National Guardian career (after 1967) as a freelance writer and teacher of journalism at Hunter College and China in 1979 and 1981.

Included are teleplays and drafts by Truman Capote, Jerome Chodorov, Sam Peckinpah, Eleanor Perry, and Murray Schisgal; an interview of Dwight D. Eisenhower by Alistair Cooke; and a comedy special with David Frost. Also included are 11 film reviews for Critic-at-Large (NBC) and a number of speeches and non-fiction articles, including several highly critical of the television industry.
