Meyer Fishman, born on 30 January 1914 in Europe, was a prisoner in at least two
concentration camps during World War II. As a survivor from the concentration camp
Bergen-Belsen, Fishman organized "human chess games" as a recreational activity for others
survivors awaiting resettlement. The Fishmans moved to Canada following World War II,
staying there for a few years before relocating to the United States with family. Meyers'
Food Bulk Store located at 2405 North Third Street opened in 1964 and remained in business
until 1974. Meyer Fishman died in August 1976.
