Hraun. An account that was probably written in the 1840s describes the "so-called High Mountain [Háafjall], a sharp and thin escarpment consisting of numerous peaks or spires with little gaps between them. One of these peaks is by far the most notable, towering majestically over the rest of the escarpment, so thin — especially toward its summit — that it makes a terrifying impression, especially on people who are unfamiliar with it. This rock spire is called 'Hraun's peak' [Hraunsdrangi; nowadays Hraundrangi], since it stands directly above the farm in Öxnadalur that goes by that name." (ESs143)
