Scope and Content Note: Records, 1982-1986, primarily related to special events during the administration of Governor Tony Earl. Includes thank you letters sent to Governor Earl for issuing proclamations for or formally recognizing special events and records related to Arbor Day and Arbor Month, including records of the Arbor Month Committee. There are also drafts of letters sent by Earl in reply to constituents' questions and concerns; newspaper clippings and correspondence on Earl's proclamation of Wisconsin as a state of sanctuary; and records on the appeal of the National Forest Service plans for the Chequamegon and Nicolet national forests. Also included are license plate designs submitted to the Great Wisconsin License Plate Escape Contest, a contest hosted by the Milwaukee Sentinel in 1985 to solicit designs for the following year's new issue of Wisconsin license plates. The designs were then turned over to the state for consideration.
